What this picture really goes to show is how relationship and bond has strengthened as the semester went on. Freshmen seminar played a significant role in shaping our relationship with each other and brought us closer together. My first three months at Baruch have been surprising to say the least. Many things have happened which I did not expect to happen coming into the school year. First off, I did not expect to hang out with students at Baruch on a regular basis since it was a commuter school. However, that was and is not the case here because not only do I hang out with the kids in my class but they’ve also become my good friends. Also, a sense of community has also been instilled here at Baruch. This was yet another thing that was stopping me to come here but you have to live it to know it and here at Baruch there are a lot of things I can do to get involved which is great. Lastly, the professors here at Baruch are really helpful. They are always there when I have questions and are very helpful and caring. My experience at Baruch thus far has been a great one!

Conclusion.

Finally! the conclusion of my first semester is near. Sadly this also means that Freshmen Seminar is over, my favorite class this semester. In Freshmen seminar, we went to numerous places and workshops to help educate us in some type of way, but my favorite was the Baruch voices. The reason why this was my favorite enrichment workshop is because it is entertaining, and it can also become heart felt when emotional stories were acted out. Baruch voices showed how creative and authentic students can be. It also showed how comfortable they adjusting to college in general because based on the monologues, no one held back. They weren’t afraid to express themselves and that alone made me enjoy this workshop more than the others. I must say the actors were phenomenal as they did the monologues. It seems as if they were the actual person talked about in the monologue. This made it easier for me to understand each monologue and even empathize with a few. I found this impressive because it seems as if the monologue was just given these actors and they studied them to perfection. To have the ability to express many different personalities in one play was amazing. I honestly didn’t think it was possible to go from a pervert who talks about his sick obsession with this girl he loves to a teen expressing her dislike of her mother treating her like a child still. Baruch voices would forever be on my mind and i hope to see more monologues as i continue my college career at Baruch.

My favorite enrichment program was “Ouch”. It was a workshop talking about racial tolerance. This honestly helped me. I realize I’ve been extremely since I’ve come to this school but as I go along it bothers me less and less.  I realized I tried not to wear certain things I made more jokes so no one had to. Now  I realize that there are easy ways to stop the situations. You could simply walk away. You could change the topic or simply just say “Woah I’m not going there”. When things offend you make it known you could even say Ouch. It can lead to a better more friendly environment.

My College Experience

It seems that finals are the giant monster we feared as a children. My nightmares have consisted of being chased by giant quantities and arriving to the testing room only to look at my test and seeing hieroglyphics. As I study more I can feel myself relax but that’s the misconception right? When you’re sure is when you’re likely to fail right? Ok so let me just pretend I don’t care tell everyone I got this handled but my palms are sweaty and I’ve been eating way too much. I have some of these finals handled but some of the material I don’t remember and some of the material I haven’t even gone over. Music has certainly helps me through college. I heard horror story of strict weird professors I just never thought Id get one. Ive had quite a few bad days. On a lighter note I’ve had the most amazing times with my team I can honestly say I love those girls. Being brought together for a common love even though it took a while for me to come around I’ve had my bonding moments. I’ve learned something from all of them. I couldn’t ask for a more amazing team. The radio station has been amazing. They taught me the ins-and-outs the tricks you learn in your sophmore and junior year even senior. Experiences with them has been unmatched. My english class I have to say was my favorite. My professor is amazing. I remember reading somewhere that an amazing teacher inspires, well he surely inspired me. I have to say that I learned a better way to live. I learned to look for the beauty in life because there’s so much of it. I’ve learned to remove negatives from from my life and mind and I’ve gotten the full enjoyment of college and life since I’ve done it. I started college depressed and alone but I’ve learned I’m never actually alone I’m all I need.

Brian M- Enrichment Workshop

Although I didn’t like the enrichment workshops that much and thought some of them were straight up dumb and at a terrible time.  But the one that was the best was the NYU performance. Just because of the fun and entertaining side of it.

Maritza’s 3rd Blog: Exploring Baruch College

I used the image of Christopher Columbus discovering the new world because this picture clearly defined my experience here at Baruch. Coming into college is kind of like an adventure your not really sure exactly what to expect, what your professors are going to be like, and if you’ll make any friends. Its a journey that requires courage and patience. Everyday I learned something like what type of services are available at Baruch and where I can find them. Sometimes you make journeys alone at first and later on find people to come with you. During your journey you run through obstacles and find ways to overcome them. This is how my experience at Baruch has been like. It has been a continuous journey of good days and bad days. At first I was lonely and  I wasn’t knowledgeable about my surrounding now I have a few friends and can help direct other on where to find a classroom or professor. Every journey is a lesson and a reward presents itself. If  someone we didn’t take a risk we might not have discovered America or go to the moon. You have to be open to the journey and whatever may come along with it. So far I have had a decent time at Baruch and I’m still open to what this journey has in store for me.

Baruch Voices

The workshop Baruch voices was surprisingly an entertaining one. I found it surprising how different these monologues were compared to the ones at convocation. It is strange how they essential ideas expressed in these monologues change each semester. It seems like a certain theme is reoccurring in these monologues each semester  whether this is purposeful or not.  It is nice to get to know our students, hear an important event in their lifer their views on Baruch college as well as their experience there. Every person has a certain story, a secret, or something that determines the person they are today. I found some of these monologues a bit too personal, there are certain things that shouldn’t be revealed to the public in my opinion. Yet overall I found voices a very interesting experience and a way to get to know each other. I found these actors that presented these monologues very professional. They helped bring these ordinary students story to life These actors presentations of the monologues were much more exciting than the actual students. They seemed much more life like, much more real, vivacious, and just more professional. They gave me a much better understanding of the true meaning of the dories behind these certain students and what was really trying to be expressed. Voices is a great way to get to know what kind of students attend Baruch college and to get an understanding that you cant judge a book behind its cover. Thus, I found voices an overall great opportunity for this, I was able to get a better understanding that Baruch is one of the most diverse school enviornemnts around.

To describe to my first semester, I picked this picture because it explains my uncertainity I had in this college. For me that semester was a challenge  and I usually got so lost that I would describe it as a winding staircase. I knew no one in particular when I first came to Baruch, but I soon met a few people. But it show that we wouldn’t be inseparable. I basically understood that this college life was not going to be anything like highschool. And naturally I would forget all those I have met. I guess when one looks at the grand scheme of things, my first semester was only the first step. This makes me realize that at every step I take, I am closer to reaching my goal. As an avid science geek, the road I follow is tough as it also requires dedication. However, I will still continue to look back down onto to that staircase and remember the things I have learned thus far.

It makes me sad when the escalators don’t work :(

There is really no point investing money into the escalators when half the time it doesn’t even work especially during peak hours. I guess this is why Baruch is notorious for having terrible escalators.
