Met Museum

Last week, I decided to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as MET. I normally don’t visit museums/art galleries because I find that type of stuff to be boring. But I’m glad that I went to this museum because I realized what I was missing out on – educating myself about art history. I didn’t realize how art history could help me understand different cultures of art. All of the paintings and sculptures that I saw conveyed something even if it was just a simple picture. They all dated back to primarily between the 13th century and the 19th century. I was able to see something that I normally do not expose myself to, which was very interesting.

MET museum ranges from European History like the Renaissance to Modern and Contemporary art history. There were so many simple paintings that I didn’t expect would be there such as the girl with the flute, the guitar player, officer and laughing girl, etc. Even though these images are so simple, it really shows the art skills of the artists during that time period, as well as what they were trying to convey through the art. It’s the simplicity of the picture that draws everyone in.

Going to this museum helped me with my first semester of Baruch. This experience taught me that there are so many educational resources out there that I should take advantage of. I can’t just stay in my comfort zone, and stick to my normal interests because that gets boring. I am willing to join clubs at Baruch that I initially turned down, because no matter if I enjoy it or not, I will still gain knowledge from it. I have always been told to branch out to new things, and last week, I did that! Now, I am on my way to more museums because why not?!
