AKPsi

My friends and I attended the General Interest Meeting for this club called “Alpha Kappa Psi,” in the very beginning of the school year. It’s a business fraternity and going to this general interest meeting was interesting because it was actually a fraternity that dealt with business related things and not parties. During this general interest meeting, I was able to listen to the members’ experiences in being a part of the club and how it changed their perspectives in business. Additionally, they all travel together as a group which sounded really fun and seeing all the pictures they took together was like they were a whole, big family.

Aside from all the traveling, this club seems really serious in what they do. They talked about how the club works with some big companies and give internships to those who qualify as well as making connections with many other big companies like J.P. Morgan.

For now, I don’t think I’ll join this club as it does seem a bit too much to handle, especially since I just started college and won’t be able to handle the workload from both school work and club work at the same time. Although, it was a nice experience to see that this was one of many different clubs Baruch offered.

The Met

For the next blog post, I chose to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In this museum, I got to see many different type of art in various time periods; such as the Greek and Roman art, Egyptian art, Modern and Contemporary art, European Paintings, Asian art, and Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. I enjoyed looking at the similarities and differences shown in each time period. Going with a friend also made it more enjoyable as we shared opinions and thoughts of each paintings as we walked through the museum. The Met was really big and spacious, I think I spent at least an hour to two in there browsing at every painting and reading their descriptions. I also went to this museum for my art assignment as well which is another reason why I spent a lot of time in the museum since I had to find a painting from four different categories.

My favorite time period art is Post Impressionism art, as you can see in the picture above. The art style in this time period really have no set way on drawing something and everything is drawn distinctly and variously. Even though some paintings could look really off and weird, that’s the aspect of Post Impressionism art; it’s different and unique. The painting that is in the picture is called A Sunday on La Grande Jatte and within this painting, it looks like a jig-saw puzzle because the colors are separated yet blended together side by side which makes the art stand out compared to the other paintings in this section.

Starr Career Development Center

The first workshop I went to was the Starr Career Development Center workshop. There, I was able to learn about the correct ways on writing a resume. With the useful and informative packet, there are instructions that tell you the do’s and don’ts when creating a resume, the important things you should include to make it stand out, the format of how a resume should look like, and general tips you should keep in mind. This workshop further explain how important a well-written resume can make or break your dream job; it stressed out the importance of correct spelling and grammar, along with poor formatting that determines your interview. Also included in the guide are sample resumes you can look at and use them as an example to see what a professional resume looks like. Professional emailing examples are also included in the packet as well, this will help you see what is considered appropriate. This workshop also explained that depending on what type of job you are looking for, the resume design can be different according to that. For example, if you are looking for an art related type of job, your resume can be a bit more creative than the regular business type of resumes. During the workshop, there were also additional resources, such as the Starr Search, that I learned about that can be used to help further complete your resume and prepare you for an interview. At the end of the workshop, there were also other additional papers that had other important information as well. This workshop allowed me to learn more information on the proper and correct ways of writing a resume. It’s very informative and beneficial for those who don’t know where to start or struggling to write a professional resume.
