Study Abroad Fair

I attended an education, or study abroad fair because of my interest in traveling the world. I love to go to new places and explore historic sites.  Ironically I found this flyer at the fair indicating there was going to be a program in Greece, and they would be departing on July 3rd. My mom lives in Greece and I go every year to visit her around that time so it would be extremely convenient for me because I would be able to receive some credits and see my mom all at once! I’m really grateful and happy that I attended this fair because if I hadn’t I would have never even known about this program. Although I’ve been to Greece many times, I have never in particular been to Thessaloniki and it would be such a great opportunity to be able to study in an American College in Greece. I have always wondered how it would be to attend school in my native country. Attending this fair has brought forth a great opportunity for me in which I am very excited about.IMG_5740unnamed

Hi everyone, sorry for the late post!!

I’m Aulona Hoxha and I’m from Kosovo. Two weeks ago my friend Aneta and I went to a Writing Workshop, since both of us have english as a secondary language  sometimes it’s hard to write essays.Attending this workshop helped me to understand the concepts of how to determine which are the main ideas on a text and  how to expand them with our own word.It was a good experience , I would recommend to everyone who needs help with writing to go the writing workshop.

Internship fair

The fair was a great event that helped me and  a multiple of other students get information pertaining to both jobs and internship opportunities. From the moment I pass the gym doors to enter to the fair, I could tell it was a big hit. There were some many students dressed professionally that I thought I was in a business convention. Since I was interested in internship opportunities, I went to CUNY internship booth and inquired. The staff told me what most booths told me apply online. So I keeped the flier (pictured) in order to apply later. Though, I didn’t anticipate it , I walked away learning tips on how to improve my school experience and have a higher rate of getting a job in my field. One person while I was waiting in line told me that I needed a high GPA. This and other tips and information pertaining jobs is what I walked away with along with connections that will influence me in the future.

Rubin Museum

I went to the Rubin museum of art which located in west 17th St Manhattan on Feb 17th. The exhibitions and collections are about Hinduism and Buddhism in Himalayan Asia which can help visitors get better understanding of spiritual stimulation.
There is a video showed that a stone icon which is the tallest single-stone sculpture on earth in southern India being anointed by devotes. The ritual takes place every 12 years in Shravanabelagola, Karnataka, India. Worshippers pour milk, pigments, flower petals and other good substances over the sculpture to send the best wishes to Bahubali.
The process of a Buddha painting is the most attractive part for me. Four different pictures show how to set a base draft use math structures and the details of using color to fill the empty parts.

My classmates and I had nice time in the museum and it is a great chance to get a deeper comprehension of HInduism and Buddhism. 12788546_493113304213652_1554744646_o12788164_493113880880261_1249860212_nFullSizeRenderimage image

The Rubin Museum

image

It has been a month since we come to Baruch College. After joining the Baruch community, I feel excited with pressure. Even though Baruch has a really good environment, there is still a lot of pressure on students such as papers, homework, quizzes, finals.

For this class, we had choice of going to workshop or the museum. My classmates decide to go to the Rubin Museum together. We saw a lot items from different culture such as bronze statue, painting, ceramics.

The one that interest me the most is the Lukhang Temple Murals. The name of the temple means ” Temple of Water Spirits.” It located behind the famous portals palace in Lhasa and is sometimes referred to as the secret temple of the Dalai Lamas.

Our Getaway to Himalaya!!!

Last sunday, several classmates and I visited The Rubin Museum. It was a great experience. The museum projected two different worlds to us. The outlook of the museum was modern and contemporary, but when we walked in it was a really sacred place. It currently has an exhibition of Himalayan arts that illustrates spirituality, social life, devotion and self-expression. All pieces of art are based on Hinduism and Buddhism.

There were plenty of unique and wonderful pieces of art that we can only find in this museum. However, what I liked the most was a video that is called Shravanabelabola. The video showed people were pouring milk, pigments, flower petals and other substances over a massive stone icon as a ritual practice. That was amazing, and it is something new for me.

Finally, we really enjoy visiting The Rubin Museum. I hope everyone can get a chance to go there if you are curious about Asian art. It is just a few  blocks away from Baruch.

Wine Ring and Pam Dillon

As my second Baruch activity, I attended a forum which featured Pam Dillon, the CEO of WineRing. As I have a great interest in tech startups, I really didn’t want to miss this opportunity to meet an experienced veteran who was in the early grounds of Wall Street, and now in the vast ocean of Tech Startups.

As I had entered the forum a bit tardy, I walked into the room that was already filled with tech startup aficionados and professionals. Pam Dillon spoke  about the early stages of engendering her baby, and what is so special about it. WineRing, a wine review/search/log app, is a multifunctional app for any wine lovers, or wine strangers. With its complex algorithm, WineRing is capable of recognizing and detecting your preference in wine, even if you don’t even know what you like. The app has an immense archive of data base on endless wines, and accordingly to your profile and your “likes,” “so sos,” and “no nos,” it filters and puts the wine that may suit your taste upon the surface.

Dillon was an art student, who was accepted to an internship at Goldman Sachs, and later she was soaked into it. I loved that unexpectedness of her. She was an anomaly and an alien. She strived against the eyes that didn’t expect much from her and put her best effort and work into every single project she had. She was a woman in the finance industry, and my favorite answer she gave us among the many of her answers that followed the audience questions, was the answer to the question, “how did you overcome the anxiety and struggle of gender difference?” Dillon answered by saying, “I focused on how other guys were also anxious and struggling because they focused on how different they were from the other men in the conference room; he might’ve been a non-caucasian, non-ivy, non-American, and he was all anxious for how he was different; so I saw the similarity between him and me.”

The Magnificent Art of GETWAY TO HIMALAYAN ART

As a Chinese, I always feel cordial when I see the Chinese traditional elements of artistic exhibition in the State.

At the second floor of Rubin Museum, Getaway to Himalayan Art exhibition excites my mind. These paintings, used by mineral pigments, passing the Buddhist symbols through hundred years. Moreover,  the prayer wheel, stupa, and the most important character﹣Buddha, all of these elements are telling me the spirit of Tibetan and Indian Buddhist shining on the Himalayan Mountains.

Especially this painting:

The painting tells us a story about how Buddha universals restoration, and has infinite life for helping countless beings in Pure Land. Under his feet, which is the world for human beings; above his head that is the Pure Land.  All of creatures are blessed by him, the great Saviour, existing through the painting.

Also, there are exquisite metal sculptures in the exhibition:

He is setting on his Lotus seat, looking at us, observing his people.

Thank you for reading.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

wowww, what a wonderful museum in the world..

On February 28th, We gathered several people visiting the Rubin Museum of Art. The museum is a cultural hub in New York City that moves guests to make association between contemporary life and the thoughts of Himalayas, and India. When I first arrived in the museum i were surprised. The beautiful and magnificent sculptures and art pieces demonstrated in front of me. The sculpture that I like most in the museum is called “KASHMIRA”. the description depicts that ” Kashmira is the personification of Kashmir, she is also known as the Daughter of the Himalayas…revered by Hindus and Buddhists alike.” The reason why I like this is it is awesome, and we can tell how much time sculptor spent in this. The 2nd floor of museum, in the buddhist shrine room has a “pool” called “scared space” it is a place that people writing down the place scared most and throw into the pool.

Rubin Museum

Last week, I went to the Rubin Museum. It was a nice trip by spending only a few hours to enjoy the wonderful beauty of art. Art can always offer you a chance to escape from the daily world to a realm of abstract beauty. The exhibition of last week was Gateway to Himalayan Art which was about Hindu and Buddhist works of art. Before I went to there, when people talk about Hinduism and Buddhism, I would always relate them to some superstitions. When I was in the museum, I marveled the extraordinarily exquisite art works. The artists used numerous intricate techniques to symbols and gestures. This picture shows above is one of my favorite arts. The artist put many details in this painting, and it is visually symmetry from the left side to the right side. I believe behind this painting, it must have many legacy stories. I love this museum. If you are feeling tired to the daily work, this museum will be a good choice to relax yourself and appreciate the beauty of art.
