One of the best parts about Baruch is that we get academic help all the time, one being the Writing Center. I went there twice so far – once for my English essay and once for History. They check spelling, punctuation, grammar, fluency and all sorts of other things, and they don’t just mark it, they actually spend time on teaching you your mistake so you don’t do it again. After you give them feedback through a survey so they can improve on whatever they lacked during your meeting. The people are pleasant and welcoming, so overall it’s worth giving up an hour of your extra free time.

This photo is from my second time (I forgot to take one the first time oops) when I went there for History. My tutor asked me what I needed him to look at and I said “structure, punctuation and grammar”. We spent a good amount of time going over colons and semi-colons, which was something I hadn’t grasped well quite yet. He was very creative with his examples and I enjoyed myself a lot. I felt like I was a good writer with minor mistakes which is always a confidence boost and a motivator. I haven’t gotten my grades back for English or History yet but I’m hoping they’re good. If they’re not I’ll be paying several more visits to the Writing Center over the next month – to be honest I might just do that anyway for work check – but if I get high grades then I might consider writing professionally.

All in all, I think the writing center provides a warm environment for all students, and they can make positive contributions to your writing no matter how great you are at it so all students should pay a visit and get their work checked, it might just make the difference between an A and a B.
