The Fearless Girl

In New York City, there are many sculptures and statues with significant and hidden meanings. The statue that I chose was the fearless girl because she is a symbol for women and girls all throughout the world. The form and position of sculptures and statues have a lot to say about what the artist intended for the message to be.

The fearless girl is standing with her head high up and her body is in a position which makes her confident. The fearless girl is standing up in front of the bull which was introduced in 1989 after the stock market crash. The bull was created as a symbol of prosperity for Americans and the artist, Arturo Di Monica, feels the fearless girl has now given his bull an image of male chauvinism because of the way she is facing his bull.

The fearless girl was installed as part of a campaign in order to pressure companies to give women the same opportunities as men. The fearless girl is a symbol of how women overcome obstacles in their work environment to rise into leadership positions, especially in Wall Street.
