Mixed Media Brooklyn Gallery

I have been to many of the frequented galleries in Manhattan but decided to venture out into my new found neighborhood. One of the beautiful things about New York is its never ending array of art galleries, exhibitions and museums. Sadly, native New Yorkers tend to take these types of privileges for grand it as many cities throughout the country lack the visibility of art. I found this particular painting to be interesting not only because of its content but also its composition and choice of materials. This work is a representation of ideas, thoughts and feelings through the use of fonts, paint, and magazine imagery. It wasn’t easy to determine the symbolism or underlying message although the art itself did remind me of other expressionist modern art pieces. The money sign in the center of the piece seems to be the driving force in the artists message, pulling together all of the other elements. It would be super fascinating to actually meet the artists and pick his brain about what the art meant to him, what he wanted to portray and if his art has meaning if any at all. This class exercise reminded me that we live in one of the greatest cities in the world and that there is something to explore around every corner.
