When The Lights Go On Again
Performed by: Vera Lynn
Written by: B Benjamin; S Marcus; E Seiler
When the lights go on again all over the world
And the boys are home again all over the world
And rain or snow is all that may fall from the skies above
A kiss won’t mean goodbye but hello to love
When the lights go on again all over the world
And the ships will sail again all over the world
Then we’ll have time for things
Like wedding rings and free hearts will sing
When the lights go on again all over the world
When the lights go on again all over the world
And the ships will sail again all over the world
Then we’ll have time for things
Like wedding rings and free hearts will sing
When the lights go on again all over the world
The artist, Vera Lynn, was trying to portray in her song was a world after the war was over. She wanted to show that once the war there will finally be peace, and everyone could live merry lives again. There would be no more bombs falling from the sky. Everyone from the war would all be home for good. People can relax now, and not have to worry about the war anymore. There will be no more sorrow, bloodshed, and darkness. The world will be now filled with love, hope, and light. When Vera Lynn is singing this song, she uses the technique of the background music of the orchestra to start off the mood in the song, so the listeners could perceive this song as a joyful and hopeful type of song. When she starts singing, she also starts off with the same mood as the orchestra making the listeners feel like theirs hope after the war, where everyone will come back from the war, and they can continue to live their lives again.
