This recent song is different from what was posted for the 1960’s because this song deals specifically with African Americans, while in the 1960’s America had songs being released for and against the Vietnam War as well. This song also illustrates the changing of music genre in the country. This modern rendition of the song adapted from the original version to suit the period of time in music history in the 1990’s. This version also became known as the official African American National Hymn. It was one of the most power civil rights anthems of the time. It says a lot about our society because it shows that even in 1990 equal rights for all was still an ongoing issue and it just goes to show how long the struggle to attain equal rights actually went on for American Americans.
