This a really sad song about the Vietnam war that attempts to depict all the hate, violence, and death seen on the battlefield. It has a dramatic ending where the soldier the song is about has a dream that there is a nuclear holocaust and there is nothing left anymore. Nothing to fight for because everyone is dead. Thankfuly, nuclear war never came. The song questions the idea of freedom and equality by asking if all this hate and violence is worth it. We are attempting to “free” people but should so many Americans be suffering for it?
