August 31 Assignment

The future does not exist without going back in time and learning what made the world how it is now. Reading Anne Frank’s diary gave us first person point of view on the horror and atrocities of the Holocaust. Mary Jemison’s interview with James Everett Seaver gave people a front row view of Seneca Indian life in the early days of the settlement of America (Indian Captive, Lois Lenski). By discovering and deciphering historical evidence and sources, we can almost put together a time line of history. It is almost because history has many missing places. In Greek mythology, the island of Atlantis was swallowed by the sea and vanished forever. People have searched high and low for this “special” island, but so far, to no avail. In a whole, historical evidences and sources give us a perspective on how people lived and how society ruled and how things have changed, leading to the modern day world.
