Group Project

At the start of the course, you will be assigned to a 3 or 4-member group. Group members will be required to work together during the semester to complete a marketing research project.   The project consists of a small-scale market research study, completed in a number of stages:

  • Reviewing secondary data, conducting qualitative research and submitting a proposal
  • Designing a questionnaire
  • Collecting survey responses from at least 100 eligible respondents
  • Analyzing the results, preparing reports and making a presentation

Note that you may not use any materials (questionnaires etc.) you developed in another class. Your group will get a collective grade for the assignments, and in addition you will get an individual grade based on your contribution to the group effort, assessed via peer evaluations of group members.

Examinations

There will be (1) a take-home examination and (2) an open-book in-class examination during the semester. There will be no final exam.

Case Assignment

The assignment will require you to analyze survey data and develop insights based on the results of your analysis. The deliverable will be in the form of a 2-page paper (plus an Appendix).

Class participation

Class participation counts for 10% of your grade. Assessment of your participation will be based on:

  • In-class participation in F2F sessions (maximum 5%)
  • Posting comments about the lecture notes or course content, or responses to other students’ comments and questions about content; each post carries a weight of .5% (maximum 2%)
  • Posting a 250-word (or longer) summary of a specialized research technique, case study, or application of research technique not covered in the lectures, along with a link to a website with more details, in the Research in Action page (maximum 3%)
  • Attendance in F2F sessions (no penalty for one absence, and a .5% penalty for each absence after the first)

To count towards the class participation grade, posts must be thoughtful and not duplicate any existing post.  Therefore the sooner you post your contributions, the easier your task will be.
