I chose my neighborhood to primarily be Main Street, Flushing. I’ve grown up here my entire life. I’ve seen it changed in the twenty-one years that I’ve been alive. There are times when we tell one another that we can’t see how things have changed since we see it everyday. That is not the case for Flushing. Although I live here, I even feel how fast it’s been moving and I wanted to take this opportunity to show us all how drastic and fast-pace things are evolving.
There is constant construction and a lot of new and old businesses fighting for money and customers. A lot diversity has also gone into Flushing but it is still primarily Chinese-Asian. I hope that through this photo essay, it has given you all some insight on the area.
I also highly encourage you to visit Flushing. It’s definitely a great place to go whether you know Flushing at all. I guarantee you’ll have a good time. It’s been getting a lot of tourist attraction the past few years. If you love food, you’ll love Flushing.
Thank you!
Welcome to Main Street: The 7 Train is the only subway train that is available in Flushing
Indian Couple Setting Up Shop in the Morning. They sell Children’s Books. Have been doing this for over a decade.
Clutter. So many businesses, so little room.
There are so many supermarkets in Flushing. Many people buy loads of food and they have to carry it home because they may live further and want to stack up on food so they don’t have to frequently visit.
Flushing gets super busy. As you can see in the photo, there’s a lot of people. It gets even busier and there are workers that still need to maneuver through the crowd for work.
I’ve seen these guys before. They’re always together. They smoke a lot and they are the definition of what Flushing is turning into. These men are not the most hygienic and it’s unfortunate.
This restaurant, called Happy Food opens from 4:30am-2am. They definitely push for quantity and they’re in a ‘hot-spot’ in Flushing and make tons of money.
One of MANY Shish-Kebab stands. It’s a really good business and they’re usually open until 2-4am. It gets really busy at night although they’re also busy during the day.
A ‘regular’ ordering his usual breakfast at a small mom & pop stand that has been there for longer than I have been alive.
This area used to be a mall. Flushing Mall. It used to be a very huge attraction but with all the new things that keep getting built, they went out of business. This is happening with many parts of Flushing and things are getting more expensive because people with money are coming in and raising prices for the people who were originally there.
Flushing never sleeps either. There is always movement. Can guarantee if you came to this spot at night you would see the same thing.
One Fulton Square. Flushing’s newest Commercial/Retail development. It goes around the block for half a block. It’s huge and gives us an idea of what Flushing will continue to become within the next few years.

Good shish Martin. I felt like yu captured the essence of the neighborhood streets in flushing. I liked the opener as I had said before because if you’re going to and from life in flushing yu usually live on the 7 line. The construction in the background is like trademark not just for queens but just the greater city of New York. Yu will always see construction anywhere yu go especially in nyc. noice
Really great job Martin. I really feel you made an effort to sort of zoom in on life in Flushing, and in contrast give us a great view of the landscape.
