Thesis statement

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus concedes Rousseau’s idea that humans naturally have the potential to be good if society does not apply corrupting influence on them. The monster in Frankenstein demonstrates the importance of education by man and by things as stated in Emile.

  1. What’s good.

1-You have a clear theory text and literary text.
    2-You make a claim.

    Concerns

1-You kind of have two claims. The first sentence is one about Rousseau’s theory of natural goodness, and the second is about Rousseau’s theory about education by man and things. What I want you to do is articulate how the two ideas are connected. I think your more interesting claim is actually in how these things are connected and how you can see that connection worked out in Shelley’s novel.

2-You need to push yourself to articulate a so what. It may be that in working out the answer to the above you might come to articulating a so what, but if not you need to make some statement about how your claim affects the way we read either Rousseau or Shelley or both.
