Michael Lewis, starts off this essay with a self-realization. He ironically points out that he spends most of his day planning out how to waste less time during the day. Reading this statement gave me a glimpse into Lewis’ mind. It allowed me to understand the way his brain works and relate to him. I too feel that I spend a significant amount of time planning out how my day, week, or month will flow. This seemingly insignificant statement made my Lewis led me to realize that I could be doing other things with the time I spend fixing my planner or writing to-do lists for myself. After pondering this assertion made my Lewis I went on to read another statement which led me to question myself. “Forcing my life into slow-motion, I notice a lot that I miss at game speed. The one thing I don’t notice is the passage of time.” The more I think about this statement, the more I realize how society has impacted me. Living in New York City, I feel as if I am always in a race against time. Whether it be getting to class, submitting an application, or meeting a deadline on time, I never feel as if I have the time to just sit down and relax. Reading this short essay always leads me to understand that speed is not everything in life. Instead, people should be focused on spending time reflecting on life and doing the things they like. After all, what is the point of living life if you are never able to sit back and enjoy the ride?

The Food Sucks!

Esteemed administrators and faculty, fellow students, and members of the Baruch community, the food sucks! It’s too expensive. It’s not good quality. It’s not what we paid for. It should be better. After all, this is a commuter school! There are no nearby dorms where we can make our own food, so it should be provided for us! The only other thing at Baruch which could possibly have a lower rating than the food is the bank of elevators in the Field Building. Although there are six elevators located in the main lobby of the Field Building, you have a better chance at winning the lotto than getting into one of these elevators. Even if you do manage to get into an elevator, chances are that it will be crowded.

Michael Jackson Back In The Day

In this essay you start off by stating “of all the things that make Michael unknowable, thinking we knew him is maybe the most deceptive. Lets suspend it.” The rest of the statements made throughout the essay regarding Michael Jackson are not supported by fact but rather strictly based on your analysis of Michael Jackson throughout the years. Although you try to use quotes from different interviews which Michael Jackson participated in throughout the years as a basis behind your reasoning, many of these statements made by Michael Jackson are broad and open ended. One thing Jackson was quoted as saying was “They come after us every way they can, and the guys are just as bad as the girls. Guys jump up on the stage and usually go for me and Randy.” Although you try to use this as justification to prove that many people thought Michael was gay, the fact that there is no background information given on what was discussed in the interview before and after this specific statement places the quote out of context and forces to reader to accept the statement as a valid point out of nothing more than blind faith. Jackson could have pointed out the fact that guys would jump on the stage and run towards him in order to reveal how diverse of a fan base he had. The fact that he mentions this does not mean that the public necessarily viewed him as being gay. Rather than trying to justify who Michael Jackson was back in the day, you should take your own advice and agree that he was a deceptive character with a very distinct mindset which is very difficult for people to understand.
