Going Through Changes

In this song by Eminem, he mainly talks about how he is at a low point in his life because of drugs and other complications in his life and how he realizes who he is, helping him recover. In his lyrics, he tells us of his story about his addiction to drugs and how it is affecting not only him, but also his family, which includes his daughters. In the line “But life keeps on complicating an’ I’m debating on leaving this world, this evening, even my girls…” he conveys how his problems bring him to a point of contemplating suicide. “…you can’t stop with these pills and you’ve fallen off with your skills, and your own fans are laughin’ at you.” tells of his problem with drugs. Eventually, his line “Wake up in the hospital, full of tubes, plus somehow I’m pullin’ through swear when I come back I’ma be bulletproof.” shows how he has overcome his difficulties, and has decided to not run away from his problems, but face them. His journey of recovering from his addictions to drugs and other problems shows the idea of progressing from a low point.

Not Afraid

The song Not Afraid by Eminem is from his album Recovery. Eminem talks about his long and hard road to recover from drug addiction. The song starts off by saying, “I’m not afraid to take a stand.” This shows vertical movement from the low point of his life to the time he will rise above it all. Toward the end he restates, “I’m standing up, I ‘ma face my demons… Time to put my life together right now.” This song gives hope to many people who are addicted and can’t find the way out. Eminem tells them, “Come take my hand we’ll walk this road together, through the storm.” Sometimes knowing others have been to where you are and have still been able to recover, can give you the motivation you need to give it a try. This message can even be taken to people who are not addicts. Knowing that others have gone through the same struggles you have on a daily basis and have come out on the other side, can give you that boost to do it yourself.
