The work of art thatI am very interested in discussing is the song, “The Bigger Picture” by the musician, Lil Baby. He released this song on June 12th 2020. This artwork was released in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. Lil baby tackles the topic of police brutality and the racial motivation behind it. Lil baby’s message is that we need to speak up about what is happening with people of color being wrongfully murdered by police. Police were put in place to keep everyone safe, not to see and treat people by their color. I chose this particular artwork, because I love Lil baby as a musician, and his music plays a major impact in my life. On top of that, police brutality is a current issue that I feel really passionate about.
Potential thesis: This artist’s work shows the truth behind police brutality, in an attempt to spread awareness and let people know that it is best to speak up.
How do you feel about Lil baby touching on serious topics in his music now?
This is a great topic with a lot to be discussed.
Hi Mohammed, great. My only worry is that your paper would be a little thin if you focus on just one song. However, a possible solution to this is if you come at your paper with a question like this in mind: how has present day Black struggle/ struggle with police brutality been represented in music in the past couple years? Lil Baby is an example of artists fusing hip hop with social justice issues, is there more he could do? Or more others have done? etc etc…..
I love this song.
I really love this song for the same reason that you do and I do think you can dig deeper into his history as an artist and why he decided to focus his music on police brutality.
One of my favorite songs that I would listen to nonstop. Police brutality is an issue that should be faced and be spoken about nonstop.
Lil baby speaks well about police brutality within this song. Its an ongoing issues within our society, so this is a very good idea.
