I want to remix the research project I completed in English class for my assignment. Black African Americans was the topic I was writing about in my research project.  I am concerning the African American community including mass incarceration, racial discrimination, gang violence and depression. I am making a presentation on visualizing images of Black struggle throughout America and the mass incarceration.My audience would be everyone who thinks Black struggle is not a thing and has no influence on America. Black Struggle gets a lot of backlash because it is said to be dramatic and not as big off a problem as it is claimed to be. I will use images to show what I mean and the process of the explanation of the subject. I will summarize and add a media at the end to spark a connection to a real life situation.

I plan to remix the first assignment paper I wrote in this classroom. The first assignment was based on gentrification and housing and its effect from the 1970s until today. I’ll be creating a “radio station” to go more in detail on my first paper and explain how the graffiti situation was similar to the war on drugs. I will also explain how housing is being impacted in NYC and low-income families are being forced to move to those housing buildings.  I will use the example of the Bronx Fire and its impact on shedding light on housing and how the government does not uphold standards and push aside these families. Finally, I will introduce that gentrification not only has a negative effect on housing but other areas. I will show the bigger picture and say how it affects employment, education and more. I am very excited to bring my creative thoughts and remix it with one of my writing papers and show a different approach to what other modes of communication can do.

 

I plan on remixing my Micheal Jackson paper that was titled “They Don’t Really Care About Us.” I’ve decided to create an action plan that will contain ideas that could prevent the negative things that happened in the past. The audience would be aimed at young people growing up in a society where its own governors don’t care about its people. This way, the young people reading this can be prepared to face any struggles or challenges that come with that. Along with possibly wanting to make a change in politics. In the action plan, I will be describing possible methods and ideas that could make a change for the better. Besides the action plan paper I’ll be writing, along with it would be an audio recording of me explaining the action plan. This allows readers to gain more of an understanding of what can be done when it comes to government absence, along with other societal issues such as anti-homelessness and police brutality. It leans more toward what should we do. The original paper focuses more on bringing the issue to the light and for people to understand where the issue stems from. Micheal Jackson was used as a pathway for understanding. Now that the reader understands the problems, the remix will give ideas of what can be done.

For my remix, I am going to be using my research paper on Drug Addiction and Mental Health. I’m going to make a PowerPoint because I want others to see and visualize what I’m trying to convey because I know that most people don’t want to read a paper and it would be easier for them to understand it through something like a PowerPoint presentation.  My audience would be everyone because it’s a topic that affects a lot of people and I feel as if its important for everyone to understand. I will be discussing music artists and how their mental problems coincide with drug addiction. I’m trying to convey the idea that drugs aren’t the problem and that antagonizing artists for using substances to cope with their mental illnesses won’t help anyone. It is more important to help artists than to criticize them for using substances as a coping mechanism, because it’s easy to judge but no one really knows what they’re going through. I will describe my argument with photos and videos. I will include lyrics and parts of their songs  for the audience to get an idea of what is going on in the minds of these artists. Making it a multimedia piece will change my project into a visual representation of my topic. I feel like it would reach more people this way because it is already a topic a lot of people can relate to and turning it into a PowerPoint and presenting it can really speak to them more than a research paper.  What’s lost is some probably just a few small details, but what is gained is that more people will want to know more about it. My personal motivation for tackling this project is that I can relate to this topic and it has effected my life.

For the remix  project so I have a few variations of an idea that I want to do. I want to make a podcast speaking about various issues us men go through. Whether it be growing up in ill environments and well have some biggie playing in the back. I’m still thinking who would be the perfect person to do this. I’m thinking my bestfriend because he also was raised in a rough neighborhood. Now I am not too sure if I want an interview based podcast like Joe Rogan or just two friends speaking. I might have a visualizer in the back or an animation every time we talk .  Now I need to know how specific it is going to be geared towards my topic specifically. Whether it be preparation questions or dissecting the lyrics.

For the remix project, I decided to go with the second paper I wrote on Mitski’s song. I plan on doing mini interviews and putting them all in one video. I will be asking people questions like if they relate to the song, or their thoughts on the song in general, and other specific questions. The people that I will be asking these questions to are going to be women. I don’t think there is a target audience, it’s really for anyone. I think it’s going to be a more serious video since it is addressing a societal problem. With this video, I am trying to show that the song Mitski wrote is relatable to many other women of color. This project includes video, audio, and maybe text. Some things that will be different from the essay will be real-life points of view. The video will not be much research instead, it will be people’s personal opinions and experiences. The biggest challenge will be finding people that know Mitski and that specific song. Since my family and friends do not listen to her, I will most likely be asking students on campus, so hopefully, I will find people that listen to her. What I like most about this project is that I can hear and learn people’s points of view on the song. They are going to have different understandings and exposure to the song’s meaning so I am excited to include them in the video.

For my remix project I was planning on remixing my research paper on how black struggle is currently represented in music. I was thinking about making a presentation on slides for this. I want the slides to be creative rather than just restating my points. I’m not sure yet about how I am going to execute this, but I was thinking of including fun strategies in getting the audience engaged. I also want to try my best to make it much more visual. By this I mean that I don’t want to include too many words on the slide. I could also focus the presentation on Lil Baby, Jay Z, and Kendrick Lamar, since these were the three artists that I mentioned in my paper. I am also planning on recording my voice over the presentation so I don’t have to get up and present in front of the whole class. I feel like the main thing that will stay with this project from my research paper is the sense of seriousness, since the topic is about a serious issue. The main challenge for me is definitely fitting everything I want in the time limit for my presentation. My main motivation is that I am able to choose everything about my project. What I write about, how I write about it. I am also motivated to finish the semester off strong and feel satisfied with that work that I have completed

For this Remix project, I plan on using my research paper on Crazy Rich Asians and creating a slides presentation. I plan on taking multiple clips,  segments, and screenshots of the film and go in depth with whether that particular moment or scene belongs in the film or not in terms of accurate authenticity. Not too sure exactly how I will structure it and organize it in my slides but I definitely want to include this aspect to show the changes that can be made to the film and the part of the film that does deserve to be noticed. I think the biggest difference in this remix project compared to my research paper is that there are visuals from the film to give a more engaging effect. A lot of the facial expressions and the visuals in the film make it more complex and adds density to the film. I want to keep my audience the same, just everyday people and giving them a perspective on the film that it is good but not good enough in terms of progression. In my paper, I ended up focusing largely on the idea of capitalism and the economics of people from different cultures and how that is taking effect in our society today in relation to the film. In this presentation, I do want to shine light on asian culture and the culture differences in America and in China, between a native Asian and an Asian American. The culture difference and the idea of dual identity in America is something I decided to table when creating my research paper, but to me was equally as important. This remix project gives me the opputunity to showcase this extensive part of my research paper and potentially add more meaning and value to my research paper as well. Since this remix was something I was passionate about even when drafting my research paper, I think it will come quite naturally and the ideas are fresh in my head. I think the bigger challenge is to present it in a presentation and being able to explain it well during my presentation. I am motivated to tackle this project and want to leave my audience wanting to go back and read my research paper to hear more.

For the remix project, I plan on remixing my research paper on Van Gogh. I feel that the paper is still incomplete and there are a variety of resources that I am thinking about adding. Another point I want to bring up is how the stigma regarding schizophrenia people still has not changed in the modern world. I will demonstrate this by adding videos/interviews of modern psychologists talking about the disorder. I plan to use multiple media clips, interviews, and more, overall my plan is to use more visual artifacts. My motivation for this project is to truly add the cheery on top to my Van Gogh research paper.
