Gen Z
The first thing that stood out to me from my reading was that social media has become the new source of news for Gen Z. The reason that stood out to me Is that it’s true and it seems so crazy because we used to watch this news channels to receive news but now we have all these new pages on Instagram or Snapchat and Twitter that allows us to keep up with the news. it’s become more convenient for us because it’s not something we have to watch at a certain time and with it being on social media we can see it whenever. the second thing that stood out to me was that 50% of the votes from gen Z will be going to Biden. I thought this was really cool to see because all I’ve been seeing around the news and social media is that there is a record-breaking number of people coming down to vote. that just makes me feel happy because I feel like people have realized that their vote matters and that Trump isn’t the best president and an order for him to not be re-elected they have to go in and vote. the very thing that stood out to me was that registered voters are more likely to support the police and the reason this going out to me was that I never really thought about it like that but thinking about it does make sense because the older people from what I’ve seen do support the police and the younger people from gen Z obviously protest against police brutality and think that they should be defunded so I thought that was really interesting. I think the way that they portrayed gen Z alliance with me and how I am is very similar. I’m an outspoken person and I do not stay quiet if I see something happening is wrong I’m also not one to stay quiet if I don’t like something that’s happening to me. I also don’t believe a lot of the things that my parents believed in which is a whole different generation for mine, I’m way more open-minded than my parents would ever be and I’m very open to new things and trying new things. one thing I’d like to add is that we are so brave for speaking up in fighting for what we believe in. it takes a lot of Courage for people especially the people that have parents with strong and different beliefs.

Week 8 Tasmia Hasham
A) The first new thing that I learned from“Backpacks v. Briefcases: Steps Toward Rhetorical Analysis” By Laura Bolin Carol is 10 implication of the rhetorical analysis is heavily used in Media. They use these ads for us to buy into their products and come to the conclusion that whatever is happening in Those ads that could be us to if only we bought the product. Another thing that I learned was exigence because I didn’t realize the importance of it until reading the essay where it explained that understanding exigence is another step leading towards really understanding the rhetorical analysis. exigence is an issue or problem that prompts someone to speak or write about it. The last thing I learned was Rhetorical messages always occur in context and in the essay she explains that it can be as simple as picking your clothes out depending on where you’re going. Whatever this I never really thought about the way I choose my clothes like that but truthfully this is exactly what I do I choose my outfit always based on the situation or the place that I am going to go to.
B) “The rhetorical situation is just the beginning of your analysis, though. What you really want to understand is the argument—what the rhetor wants you to believe or do and how he or she goes about that persuasion.” This is a quote that I got from the essay and the reason I chose this quote is that I read it as a helpful tip when trying to break down the ad or campaign speech. it makes you see that there’s way more to it than just analyzing it yourself you have to ask questions about what is this person trying to make people feel, what is this person trying to get across to these people.
C) One way this essay has affected rhetorical analysis that I’m currently working on is by going more into depth about what is the author really trying to get across and what is she trying to persuade these people. I feel like in my rhetorical analysis right now it’s not as in-depth as I would like it to be after reading this essay.

Rhetorical Analysis Campaign Ad-Tasmia Hasham
The audience this ad was meant for was people of color and specifically African Americans and anyone that supports the idea that they are not being equally treated. Throughout the ad Biden and Kamala Harris address the fact that Black Americans should not be treated the way that they are and that they are being heard. So this was meant to show them that their problems are being heard and not be overlooked. The reason I know this is because when watching the ad they said black Americans as well as saying that they hear the problems and they want to help fix it.
The argument this ad is making is that they want to reform the policing in this country and creating a standard that they have to uphold. As well as conditioning federal funds and holding police officers accountable for their actions and to now try and fix racial justice. I thought there argument was good because they made sure they connected to the audience and showed that they cred by talking about the issues that we want to hear.
The feeling that this ad evoked for me when I was watching was relief, happiness, sadness, and excitement. The reason I was feeling relief was that once I heard him talk about how black people are being treated in America and how this should not still be going on was relieving to me because he’s listening to what we have to say which is more than what our current president is doing. he’s talking about police brutality and the fear that these black Americans have to go through with me of every single day thinking that their life is in danger and I appreciated that he talked about that. the reason I was feeling sadness was that when he was talking about the police brutality and the fear that they have to go through every day made me so sad that after all this time they’re so racist and Injustice in our country after all we’ve been through. makes me sad that we still have to fight for equal rights because of a person’s skin color. I was happy when watching the ad because I was just so glad that he’s trying to change the Injustice in America and talk about what he’s going to do when he’s elected to try and fix the racism and Injustice and the police brutality. And the reason why I was excited is that I’m hoping that if Biden does win the election that we see change, and we see the change happening in a good way to try and fix the damage that Trump caused those four years of him running as president.
The side is positive because he talks about the Injustice in America and what he’s trying to do to fix it and hopefully make it better for the people of color and specifically the black Americans. He and Kamala talk about hearing the people and talk about all the things that they’re going to try and do to hopefully make a change and try and make these black Americans feel safe. I know that this is a positive ad is because they only talk about what they can do for the better and how they’re going to do it.
The visual elements of the ad really help catch my eye because when I was watching the ad I wasn’t distracted in any way and I watched the ad fully through without having to look away or look on my phone because I was bored by it.
The way they use ethos was by talking about how they feel for the audience and they connected to them by the thing that they understand what they’re going through is rough and they’re trying to help and maybe fix that and make a change to hopefully make it better. The way they use logos was by talking about the things that are going to do so hopefully fix our problems like conditioning federal funds and holding police officers accountable. Pathos is used by bringing in other people of color to show that they are trying to connect with them and are trying to put to show that they are trying to establish change.
I think the ad was successful because it caught my attention and had strong points about things that a lot of people want to see a change in. I also think that showed compassion and delivered the message well by connecting with the audience.

Week 2 Assignment – Tasmia Hasham
The text that I decided to read was Angie Martinez’s What We deserve essay. The essay was about the becoming of her mother and what she had to sacrifice to be able to give her the life that she has now. Throughout the essay, she brings up a lot of issues in the Dominican Republic with women, like how they don’t get paid as much, or they get sexually assaulted at a very young age or abused, as well as being pregnant by the age of 15 and more. She connected her mother’s story to another young girl that was the same age as her mother being taken away from her father because of ICE. She talked about how both of them worshipped away from their childhood and was forced to grow up when they shouldn’t have. She also talked about how the parents have to make very hard decisions even if it doesn’t always seem like the best. A quote from the essay that caught my eye was “So why immigrate when it’s clear that immigrant women are vulnerable and largely unprotected no matter where they go?” I thought this was very powerful because what she said was completely true, immigrant women are not protected here they are going through similar things because even though you have sent them to the U.S it doesn’t mean they’re going to be safe because we have a lot of horrible things here as well. It’s sad to say that women have to watch what they do when they are by themselves because someone can come and assault them but that’s something we have to do in order to stay safe. The reason I chose this text was just out of curiosity but I’m glad that I did. When reading this essay I was able to connect it back to my own situation because my mother had to have an arranged marriage to my father because my grandmother wanted her to have a better life and go to the U.S. reading the essay also made me really see the sacrifices that both my mother and my grandmother had to make in order to give me and my brothers better opportunities.

Introduction- Tasmia Hasham
Hello my name is Tasmia and the first fact about me is that i’m Bengali. Being Bengali has become a huge part of me because of its culture. Growing up I didn’t appreciate my culture like I wish I had, I felt uncomfortable wearing my traditional clothing around other people and that was because I was mainly friends with white people so I thought it would be weird of me to ever wear traditional dresses. As I grew older I’ve learned to really appreciate my culture even though I still have a lot of learning to do. I’m really trying my best to embrace and incorporate my culture in my life more often. I’m proud to say that I’m comfortable with wearing my traditional dresses out in the public as well as educating my other friends about my culture.
Another thing to know about me is that I am the youngest in the family as well as the only girl. I have two older brothers who are my best friends, they have impacted me so much In a positive way because they have teached so many valuable lessons. I also know that if I ever needed to talk to anyone my brothers would gladly listen to me without any judgment and even though I don’t have a sister they truly try their best to understand in a female perspective for me which is something I really appreciate.
Jermaine Lamarr Cole- also known as J Cole. I truly love this man, I love his music so much and anyone that knows me knows that. His music is something that I love listening to when I’m sad or happy because anytime I listen to him it’s just a vibe. He’s also someone that I look up to because of how inspirational he really is, throughout his whole career he’s shown me that if I want something then I should get it and that it requires a lot of hard work.
I am a really outgoing person so being around people who are quiet makes me uncomfortable because then I get shy. But usually once I get to know you I am great vibes well at least I think so. I love trying new things and I’m really open-minded and accepting of others. Oh and I love Harry Potter and if you don’t then I don’t know what to say.
I also love shoes, I used to be obsessed with it in middle school but lost my interest in high school but about a year ago I started getting back into it and have been buying shoes since then which my mom is very mad about. But shoes are something that actually makes me happy which might sound weird but I’m happy that I’ve gotten back into it.
