A) The first new thing that I learned from“Backpacks v. Briefcases: Steps Toward Rhetorical Analysis” By Laura Bolin Carol is 10 implication of the rhetorical analysis is heavily used in Media. They use these ads for us to buy into their products and come to the conclusion that whatever is happening in Those ads that could be us to if only we bought the product. Another thing that I learned was exigence because I didn’t realize the importance of it until reading the essay where it explained that understanding exigence is another step leading towards really understanding the rhetorical analysis. exigence is an issue or problem that prompts someone to speak or write about it. The last thing I learned was Rhetorical messages always occur in context and in the essay she explains that it can be as simple as picking your clothes out depending on where you’re going. Whatever this I never really thought about the way I choose my clothes like that but truthfully this is exactly what I do I choose my outfit always based on the situation or the place that I am going to go to.
B) “The rhetorical situation is just the beginning of your analysis, though. What you really want to understand is the argument—what the rhetor wants you to believe or do and how he or she goes about that persuasion.” This is a quote that I got from the essay and the reason I chose this quote is that I read it as a helpful tip when trying to break down the ad or campaign speech. it makes you see that there’s way more to it than just analyzing it yourself you have to ask questions about what is this person trying to make people feel, what is this person trying to get across to these people.
C) One way this essay has affected rhetorical analysis that I’m currently working on is by going more into depth about what is the author really trying to get across and what is she trying to persuade these people. I feel like in my rhetorical analysis right now it’s not as in-depth as I would like it to be after reading this essay.
I’m glad that this article gave you ideas about how to deepen your analysis of the political speech. One thing to remember is that the message of the speech may be different from the actual words spoken by the speaker. There are also unspoken messages being conveyed.
