In my opinion, I enjoyed all of the workshops we attended because I learned different things from each one of them. They opened up my mind to the different possibilities that can be created from small things such as art. For example, when we attended the Mishkin Art Gallery, the overall theme of the art pieces was music, specifically jazz. The speaker told us how the people in each one of the paintings were significant to the tone which it set off. I remember one of the art pieces contained a man in a diagonal pose which sprouted a sense of enthusiasm and dynamism. Additionally, we also attended the workshop with the media and how it can be unreliable at times. When we watched the clip of the girl who faked the disease, it was very interesting and astonishing. After this workshop, I realized how much it matters to research and use appropriate and reliable sources because it is a big deal. Both of these workshops showed me how little things can make a big difference. Furthermore, besides the workshops, the voices at Baruch also inspired me and many of the voices got to me as well. The actors did an amazing job of bringing writing to life and showing us the feelings in the writing. This actually got me to think that the free writes we did were for a certain purpose and it is actually a very good exercise for our minds to be relaxed and put everything on our minds on to paper and sharing it if we’d like. All these experiences I had in Freshmen seminar served a very essential purpose and it is a privilege that we had a chance to do these nice things.

From all the enrichment workshops we attended this semester, the one that I enjoyed the most was the Sidney Mishkin art gallery. I didn’t get a chance to fully attend the prior workshops so I don’t believe I have enough information to judge them. But the art gallery workshop was very interesting. Because I went with only a couple of students form class, we had the pleasure of meeting one of the photographers in the gallery. Her pictures were focused on jazz music. It was very interesting to see how she captured all the photos and how she wanted to keep the history of jazz alive through the pictures. One of the other photographers in the gallery was only sixteen years old. I was so shocked and inspired that someone who is around the same age as me has such great talent and is putting it to good use. One of the things the photographer told us was to do whatever you want to do and you will be happy. And that was evident because that is what she did and she was so proud of her pictures. Seeing all the different photographs in the gallery made me realize that you should do what you want and what is important to you because that it what is going to make you truly happy and successful.

Throughout my first semester atBaruchCollegeI was extremely lucky to be in class LC16. During our days in FRO we were lucky enough to go to many Enrichment workshops that helped us enhance our understanding of the world and certain skills we can utilize. I enjoyed the workshop where we learned about obtaining information and sources from reliable places. It was really interesting to see how many of the sources we come to know now a days are actually unreliable. The media isn’t as trustworthy to find out information as it used to be. I enjoyed the small lecture the professor gave us during the workshop. It was engaging and interesting. I also enjoyed going to the museum and learning about photography. It was really interesting to see how photography has changed as well as the perspective people have when it comes to viewing the world. The photographer who was giving us the information about her photos, I would hope to go to the gallery again in the future. I enjoyed most of the class discussion such as the leadership one. It was fun listening to what others feel about certain issues and how everyone was also respectful to each other. The leadership one was really nice because it helped me and inspired me to apply for TEAM Baruch. It also helped me understand certain aspects of being leader, since I was previously a leader. It opened up new opportunities and views that I did not have before. Overall, this semester was enlightening and I was able to learn many different things. From knowing how to surf the internet and find reliable sources to becoming a leader.

My favorite enrichment workshop was the news/media workshop. I feel like this workshop was the most helpful. It made me realize that not all news are true. A lot of news are fabricated to make readers interested. It made me more aware of what type of information to believe. I liked how the presenter in the workshop showed us the video of the Flying Penguin. I think most of the audience would have believed that video was real if the presenter hadn’t told us otherwise. The video of the girl with the unusual disease also seemed very true. This workshop really helped me to understand not to believe everything the media tells me.

My expectations for Baruch was a little bit different from reality. I didn’t know how small the class was and I wasn’t really used to it in the beginning. I wasn’t used to having class with the same people either because since my high school was so big, every class had different faces. So this took some time to get used to. I wasn’t able to quickly get out of my high school lazy mode and adopt to the college life. So I’m still doing most of my assignments last minute. I know this has to change but I’m still trying to change. I developed a new bad habit, and that’s falling asleep in class. I don’t even close my eyes, I just blink and I fall asleep. But overall, Baruch taught me a lot and I felt like most of the classes opened up to new ways of thinking for me and I’m really grateful.

My first three months at Baruch have been unforgettable. I never though Baruch would be so diverse. From what I’ve heard, Baruch is full of Asians. And although there are many Asians, there are also many other races. When I first came here, I thought I would be alone: eating by myself, studying by myself, and even walking to class by myself. However, it was the total opposite. I was fortunate to meet awesome people and make new friends. This helped me get used to Baruch. Unlike high school, there hasn’t been a day when I didn’t come home from school with a smile on my face.
This meme is a representation of me in class. I always sleep in all my classes. As soon as I get comfortable in my seat, I start closing my eyes, and my mind runs away from class. I know it’s a bad habit and puts me in danger of failing my classes. I should start sleeping earlier. I need better time management!

My first three months of college have been a handful so far, but it has also been great. I’ve been looking forward to college for a long time, especially during the summer. I was excited to embark on a new journey in my life and meet new people. It was a nice change from seeing all the same faces everyday. I’m glad that I chose to be in an LC my first semester because it really helps with the transition into college where you don’t know anyone, and I’m so thankful that the LC o was put in has gotten so close throughout the semester. Going into college, I still had that high school mentality and senioritis definitely did not wear off soon enough. It was hard adjusting to the amount of work load I was getting all at once. Time management is definitely a necessity in college especially in a commuter school. So much of my time is taken commuting to and from class, about three to fours a day, that it takes away from my studying or work time. Overall though, my experience at Baruch has been a good one and I love coming to the city to learn. I hope my experience here gets better with time.

Before I began to attend in Baruch, I was very nervous. After graduating high school it was like I had to restart. I had to learn that teachers aren’t always there to help or they are not checking homework. It was back to the basic. I had to learn to push myself since the teachers wouldn’t. It took awhile until I got use to having to keep myself on schedule and learning to to write and remind myself of due dates. The first three months was an eye-opener as it was the first step to being independent. You realize that everything you do only affect you and not the teachers or counselors. It is you that has to go out of your way to understand certain things and having to push yourself to attend class everyday. I needed to keep myself focus and not to be lazy. I had to be disciplined in waking up on time since it took an hour to get to Baruch. I learned to sleep early in order to wake up for the next day. I couldn’t be the Olivia I was in high school where my school was 10 minutes away from my house. Being in college taught me to discipline and to be on top of things LC-16 allowed me to settle into college with the help of Stefanie and Summer. I was able to ask questions to Stefanie and Summer about certain things and have guidance of those who are have gone through or going through college. Also being able to be part of classes where I get to know everyone and see them every class was nice. I wasn’t alone in classes and had familiar faces.

Man, i really love the city. This is a picture that i took of time square and i feel that it really shares alot of what i’ve been experiencing at baruch. Back from where i used to go to school, there wasnt much diversity. Most of the kids in my school were asian but here at Baruch, it is really a huge melting pot of culture and ideas. My experience here at baruch was great and i really want to get more involved to make the best of my college experience. I met alot of new friends here that hopefully i can keep in touch with after the semester but of course i hope to make new friends which i probably will. Going to a second semester at baruch is very exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time because the classes are hand picked and they are not the best. We pretty much get the left over classes that other people dispose of. I guess this is just a part of growing up and having responsiblity.

My favorite enrichment workshop was the Baruch Voices V, which we went to on November 29, 2012 in the Mason Hall. This was my favorite workshop because it brought a majority of the freshmen together. Plus, it was a free show. Come on, free. The monologues were nice I admire the efforts and performances of the actors. The monologues resonated with me to a certain degree because they were based on problems that a majority of college students face like waking up, doing homework, and managing personal life. My favorite was the bacon monologue, the actor was hilarious (every since convocation he had recited his given monologues excellently). The bacon monologue had a nice twist, its understanding was completely different in the end from what it was in the beginning.

My experience at Baruch so far has been a good one. At first, it was weird transitioning from high school to college. I was used to seeing everybody I knew and I was close with everyday, knowing all the teachers really well, and enjoying my time with all my close friends every day (which was great and I will never forget it). I came into college and I see so many different and new faces. Its definitely difficult at first adjusting to many new faces, not seeing the usual faces your being used to, and facing the fact that for the most part of college, youl be recognized as a number rather than a student by your professors. However, as time gradually passed, it became easier connecting with your professors, becoming familiar and friendly with kids in your classes and from there on, life and the workload just becomes much easier to handle. I’ve worked hard this semester and im glad to say im doing soilid but I know theres room for me to improve.

My favorite enrichment program was the Baruch Voices V on Thursday, November 29 at 12:30pm in Mason Hall. Out of all the enrichment programs, I think this one is the most entertaining and amusing. The monologues being read were relatable and somewhere very amusing to listen too. I realized that whatever I’m going through, someone else is too. People were able to describe and vent about their personal lives, which probably helped them move forward. Personally, I think that the monologues were a great idea because it gave people a chance to express themselves as individuals. The actors doing the monologues really resonated through Mason Hall. They each embodied the monologue they read.
My favorite monologue was the one about bacon. Not only was it funny, it was about bacon. Bacon is one of my favorite foods. It’s crispy, it’s outright delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a good monologue about bacon before.

My first three months at Baruch have been better than I expected it to be. I have managed to make friends, keep up with my school work, and enjoy all the different food places this area has to offer. My first impression of Baruch was that it was a commuter school. Although not entirely wrong, it’s not so bad. Being part of a learning community has made it so much easier to be able to bond with other students. Having them as friends makes coming to school worthwhile. I thought Baruch was going to be dull because people believe that students just come and go; there’s no college life style. While it might not be the college experience I was looking for, I don’t think it’s so bad if you put in a little effort.
My favorite thing about going to Baruch, well college I general, is that I don’t have classes on Fridays. Thursdays are the new Fridays and Fridays are the new Saturdays. I think it’s great to have that extra day to sleep in and not have to worry about getting to school on time. Baruch has also offered me my first job and my first internship. I’m gaining the skills I need to succeed outside of the classroom.
I look forward to my next couple of years in Baruch and hope that they are better as time goes by.

My first three months here at Baruch have been both challenging and informing. I started off with the complete high school mentality.. I hadn’t really realized that, when you are learning something in high school, it might not necessarily matter for you to ACTUALLY learn it, it’s just a class I’m taking to get into college.. Or at least that’s what It old myself. I aimed to make my senior year as short as possible, so by my second semester, I was starting school at 7:20 AM, (I only had to wake up 40 minutes before school) and I finished at 10:40, 5 days a week. I BSed through most of my classes, and of the 4 classes (2 gym 1 english 1 economics) I failed the first gym class which was my first class due to me not going enough times, I got a 65 in the other gym class after writing a five page handwritten essay, a 65 in my economics class, and an 80 in my english class. I had to go to summer school for my last gym credit and graduated in august, and started college 10 days later. I f.irst started to realize as the weeks went on that the syllabus is VERY important, and the more I don’t read it, the more likely I am to miss something important. I also learned that some of these classes I’m taking are HARD and that I really need to pay attention. Out of my six classes (including this FRO class) I found Math to be the hardest. I didn’t pay attention because I was nieve and assumed that since I came out of highschool with 9 credits in math, and top 7% on the SAT for math, I knew it all, but I had never taken calculus. I soon realized that this class is very hard and by the time I really started trying I was too late and had to drop it. Then in American History, I didn’t pay attention and failed the first test. This was a wake up call for me and I’m doing a lot better now, and it just goes to show that the move from high school to college really isn’t that easy if your not on that mentality already, and some people have to learn the hard way.. So Spring semester, I mad my day start at about 8AM everyday and end at 12PM. It’s a push to force myself to be on time and not miss class.

Baruch College is a big place I never thought I would see as many people fit into it. Many complain that going to college in Manhattan lacks “the college experience”, I say they are just being lazy. Going to college in Manhattan, especially Baruch, there are a lot of things to do all that is required is some exploration the area and making the most of it. I met some amazing people so far that have made my first semester comforting and truly unique. Classes are fair and well as long as you keep on track with your work. My first semester has been a time managing experience, time between classes, time in classes, time hanging out, time doing homework, time studying, time working, and time sleeping. It all seems like a lot but this is only the beginning. This is the time to learn strategies, make friends, and set a course for yourself.
My meme is fairly self explanatory. As a college student you have more responsibilities than before. A long day includes waking up way before the sun starts to rise, being in a crowded subway, grabbing breakfast before your are late to class, sitting through class, grasping what the professor is saying, grabbing lunch before your next class, going to that class, and after classes, homework in the library or hang out (maybe both). By the time you get home the only thing you want to do is drink something, eat food, jump into bed, and sleep.

Throughout my first semester at Baruch College I was fascinated by the way college worked. First of all, college classes have far less tests and homework as opposed to high school. The amount of homework we have in each class is very minimum however. Tests and projects account for a huge part of our grade. When I heard we had from 2-3 midterms it always made me wonder how that was possible. Of course the professor meant we would have 3 exams but, I have always wondered why they called it midterms. Anyways, the amount of tests greatly differed from the amount back in high school. I actually like the idea that we have less tests because it helps me to focus on a wider range of topics and practice honing my studying skills. With the decrease in amount of tests, it pressures me into studying harder and hopefully trying to get the A. With fewer tests and better grades on these tests, it will only ensure a better grade and another push towards finishing the class.

Sleepy. I feel so sleepy. It is as if any whole body is frozen like thick ice. I wish I could go to my comfortable abode and sleep for a long time. Too bad I can not sleep in this class. Sleepy. I am very sleepy. When will this class end?

Musical playlist
Posted on September 19, 2012 by ao149943
1. Little Garcon – born ruffians
2. Golden- Fall Out boy
3. Every teardrop is a water fall- Coldplay
4. Viva la vida- Coldplay
5. You found me- The Fray
6. How to save a life- The Fray
7. over my head – The Fray
8. Fly me to the moon
9. Come fly with me-Frank Sinatra
10. Dance with me-Dean Martin
As a freshman in Baruch College it is my duty to demonstrate who I am and where I come from. The term “to be” is a verb. It means that life is continuous and ever-changing. My musical playlist reflects my changing tastes in genres of music. I believe that music takes us to higher dimension or another world. With the heart of each beat, you feel you are right at home. My first song is “Little Garcon” by Born Ruffians. This song is a very special song. It has the innate ability to transport me to a different state. I feel like I am in dream world. The second song is “Golden” by Fall Out Boy. When I listen to this song I think about the past memories that have shaped me into who I am. Two songs that are “Every teardrop is a Waterfall” and “Viva la Vida” by the same artist named Coldplay. Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. The two songs make me have a joyous mood in life’s possibilities. It also helps me to explore my imagination deeply. The next song is “You found me” by The Fray. The Fray is an American piano rock band from Denver, Colorado. Formed in 2002 by schoolmates Isaac Slade and Joe King, they achieved success with the release of their debut album, How to Save a Life in 2005, which was certified double platinum by the RIAA and platinum in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The Fray achieved national success with their first single, “Over My Head (Cable Car)”, which became a top ten hit in the United States. When I feel disappointment and heartbreak I listen to this song. In a Reuter’s article, Isaac Slade, the lead singer and pianist, stated that the lyrics for “You Found Me” were written in 2007, and that the song asks about the problem of evil, why bad things happen to good people, after some of their friends and family went through very tough times. Another favorite song by the same artist is “How to Save a Life”. This song is helps to think of inspiring memories that courageous people have made in people’s lives. It also means that I could also make a difference in a person. The rest of my playlist are classic songs such as “Fly me to the moon”, “Come fly with me”, by Frank Sinatra and “Dance with Me” by Dean Martin. What set these songs apart from others is because of its time. I love when Frank Sinatra sings the many lyrics that pull me to his world. An age of club hopping and big band jazz. Although not as popular as Sinatra, Dean Martin has also played a vital role in in this genre of music. With signature songs such as “Memories Are Made of This”, “That’s Amore”, “Everybody Loves Somebody”, and “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You”,” He was nicknamed “King of Cool”. This is taste of my collection of songs that I truly cherish with care.

I hate waking up in the morning… Why do i have to go to college? Why cant i just be a professional game tester? or something that makes a lot of money without having to do m, much. maybe that’s the reason i wanna have a business major, so i can just make money from talking to people. Well the train is here, I hope I’m not going to be late again. Is it true that 3 absences and you drop the class? i really hope i don’t fail, that means the money is wasted that i could have used to buy clothes. Oh gosh look at the stops on the N train, what happened to the 23rd street stop? did they decide to just screw with my life? Oh this must be one of those express trains. Wonder how i will get to class today. Wow who would have known the R train is local. New York the city that never sleeps, yea i know why they call it that now. Drip drip drip. Hmm whats that sound? omg its freaken pouring outside! I’m done, today sucks but hey I’m sure some people get it worth than me. Time to suck it up and get my ass to class
