Last week’s FYS class was different than the other ones. We went to a lecture hall and had someone from the STARR career center speak to us about all the opportunities that are presented for us to take advantage of. I wasn’t informed about a lot of the information that she mentioned, including mock interviews and help with creating a well organized resume. I definitely will be looking into the center for guidance when it comes to taking my career to the next step. This week’s class was informative and I’m glad to know about all the details right at my first semester here at Baruch.

Weekly Reflection
Overall, last week has been easy going. Last week’s class involved a speaker from the STARR career center coming in to benefits the center has to offer. It was great because the center is free and offers a range of benefits to help students succeed. The center offers mock interviews, career counseling, jobs, academic advise, and more. After the session I visited the center and found lots of helpful sheets including upcoming jobs, workshops, guides to majors, and more. The website also had helpful links including Vault which I used during an appointment I had at the center. Knowing that this center is easily accessible will help me throughout my years at Baruch and I’ll continue to use their services.

This week FYS class was different from the ones before. We wen´t to a lecture hall which is bigger than the classroom we usually go to. There was a woman speaking about things you can do at Baruch that I didn´t know you could. She talked about internships and writing a resume, which was quite interesting because I finally learn what an “internship” is actually about. I found out that there are so many different departments in which I can go and ask for help. In conclusion I feel like that class was what I needed before ending my first semester in college.
Weekly Reflection #7
The last freshman year seminar class was a bit different. We went to one of the big lecture halls and had someone explain to us all what the STARR center has to offer. To me this was really helpful because before this past Tuesday I had no idea what STARR was, and I feel it can be really helpful in my future. I intend to go to at least a couple workshop before this semester ends. I also learned that there is an App called Simplicity and from what I have been able to see it is really helpful for anything related to the internships Baruch has to offer. It was overall a very informative class and I am sure all their tools will be helpful in a future.

This week was pretty good. I had a lot of work though, so I stayed up very late almost every day of the week. At FYS, a woman from the STARR center came and she spoke about the STARR career center and the programs they offer. I knew the STARR center was good but listening to the woman speak, I realized how much the center has to offer. After realizing how much they offer, my friend, Alex, and I went to a STARR career workshop that day. The workshop was taking a headshot for Linkedin. I am really happy I took a headshot because now I feel ahead of the game. My dad always told me to create a Linkedin profile as soon as possible so I can begin making connections as soon as possible. I am happy I participated in a STARR workshop because it gave me an advantage for my Linkedin profile and future.

Today someone from the STARR center came and explained everything about the center. I found it very useful and she was very informative. I already visited the Starr center but she told me a bunch of new information that I never knew before. Like the symplicity app she told us to download. I know for a fact I am going to be going back for my Resume and if I need help for interviews.
Weekly Reflection-11/5
Today’s freshman Seminar class was interesting because it allowed us to learn about all the benefits that Baruch offers students. Someone came to speak about the STARR center at Baruch and all the workshops and online resources that can help us a guide in our college career and our future. The STARR center provides connections to workshops, information sessions, career fairs, internships, jobs, mentoring and more. If you’re lost on your career path or not sure what you want to major in they can help you with that. Even if it comes to needing professional business attire, learning how to handshake, speak to people and more. All in all, I think learning about all the resources in the STARR center was very useful because I think I could definitely take advantage of one of their tools. It’s been difficult managing and staying on track academically lately so I think attending one of their workshops would help me better prepare.

Last FYS Class was fun! I love listening to people’s stories, like where they came from, what they make of their current situations right now, and the stereotypes some face because of race, ethnicity, gender, etc. I also shared my story, and I felt like I could have done better, probably the nerve got the best of me because it’s quite difficult to share something emotional or more specific to me out loud. I prefer writing than actually presenting something about me. However, I enjoyed speaking in front of the class because I tried to make my story lighthearted. This past week, I have been very busy, with all the exams on the same day, and all the planning for schedules. I’m very happy with my schedule because it works out with my work and extracurriculars.

It was fun to see that all monologues were very pretty much outstanding because they all were talking about themselves so then, that makes it easier for them to talk about themselves rather than anything else. I personally think that it was kinda cool that everyone has a talent to persuade other things rather than simple stuff. Some people inspire me to be a stronger figure and how we should precede with a stronger mind!

I found the monologues very interesting. I was able to finally sit in a classroom where I learned that everyone was not from NYC and it was cool to see everyone’s different perspective on life. One of my friends that I met in Baruch talked about something that I didn’t know he was going through and it was nice to see a softer side of him. I wasn’t really proud of myself and my monologue as I do tend to have a interactive and busy lifestyle but I felt I didn’t show that well enough such as me urbexing as a past hobby and being on top of 60 floors etc. I’m gonna try to work on my public speaking better.
