So during week #2 a guy came in and gave information about the study abroad programs. I am extremely interested in being involved and maybe going away for at least two weeks. I love going to different countries and seeing their cultures. I would like to travel abroad at least once at Baruch. I am getting really tired of America to be honest. Anyways another lady came in and was talking about the honors program which I am also interested in.

Weekly reflection #1
First week class was pretty basic. We learned about the different resources in the school which is going to be very helpful in the future. I know I’m going to utilize the writing center the most because of the amount of essays and speeches that I have to perform. Obviously talking about integrity and plagiarizing is important because it can fail you if you don’t respect the rules or kick you out of college. Anyways my classes are pretty light to me and I’m able to handle them. Overall I was able to adapt to everything with no issue.
Reflection #2
Last week’s class was extremely informative. The director of the Study Abroad program really sparked my interest in studying abroad. He really went into depth about the pros of going abroad and how much of a good experience it would be. He also emphasises the huge role the study abroad department does it helping to make sure that if you want to go somewhere they will make sure to do everything in their power to get you there. In high school, my school took me to Ecuador in 9th grade for a week and South Korea in 11th grade for a week also. I love travelling and studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity I intend to take advantage of before graduating Baruch College! Also, the speaker about the Honors program was very informative, and I am thinking about taking some honors courses.
Reflection #1
Two weeks ago, our class was vert interesting because we got to learn about the different resources that the school has to offer. Although the school isn’t enormous, it is still big and it is not obvious where a lot of opportunities are located. Like BCTC will be a very good place for me to visit because I am absoultely horrible at using technology and some stuff here is still confusing on Blackboard and such and they are always eager to help. Additionally, the Writing Center will be a major help because one of the biggest stereotypes about college is all the essays. The support from the Writing Center will ensure I’m turning in my best work.
FYS Enrichment Workshop #1: Academic
I decided to go to the Brooklyn Art Museum on 200 Eastern Parkway. The museum was close by so I decided to check it out. Though I was already lost the moment I left the train and my google maps was bugging out. At one point It was telling me to jump a fence and walk through a building. Eventually I reached
The second floor was closed and I didn’t find the 4th floor interesting so I mainly stayed on the 1st 3rd and 5th floors. I saw mummies, paintings, sculptures, and many different artifacts. The first floor was mainly paintings so I took a few pictures there, and the 3rd floor, I had mostly spent my time in the Egyptian area. On the fifth floor I saw many old paintings and artifacts. My favorite exhibit was the one of the “Book of the Dead” on the 3rd floor. The book consists of a number of magic spells intended to assist a dead person’s journey through the Duat, or underworld, and into the afterlife. There were many other interesting exhibits including Canopic Jars, a painting of Niagara Falls, and a whale sculpture. There were many smaller interesting pieces, such as an Egyptian mask and knife, along with Costa Rican amulets made of gold. History is filled with many weird and interesting things. I dislike history but love the artifacts and remains of what the past has left behind. They were many murals of Egyptian kings which were interesting to see. Coming here makes me wish I didn’t lend out my camera since my phone camera sucks.
After about 1-2 hours, I left the museum and decided to head home. It was a fun and memorable trip that I would not mind going back to. I highly recommend visiting this museum in the future.
Enrichment Workshop #1: Student Life
Aman Dharani
For my First Enrichment workshop of the year, I chose to go to one of the Team Baruch Interest Meetings, fulfilling my Student Life requirement. I chose this event out of them all because this is one that interests me the most, as I’d be able to impact and help the most people while growing as a leader myself. I learned so many new things at the meeting, such as the fact that Team Baruch consists of FYS Peer Mentors, Orientation Leaders, Success Network Mentors, etc. You eventually realize that these Team members are responsible for a lot of our opportunities as Freshman at Baruch and are basically the backbone of operations for First-Year Students. I was able to learn a lot about the application process and how there is an interview as well, which is something I’ll be sure to prep myself beforehand for. The meeting leaders dove into how being apart of Team Baruch can drastically improve your social skills, networking, and leadership abilities. All of these are skills that you need in the real world and there is no better way to develop them than alongside your peers. We also got to sit before a panel of current Team Baruch mentors which was perhaps the best and most informative part of the event. I got to learn that members are just ordinary students like myself who blossom into beneficial members of society. They answered tons of questions for us and provided us with information about interviews and events. One of my favorite things about Team Baruch is that once you get in one year, you don’t have to apply again the following year. “Once a Team Baruch member, always a Team Baruch member” is something that really stuck with me throughout the meeting. The saying showcases that not only do you stay as a unit throughout your college career, but you also stay a growing and helping member of society as the skills you develop stick with you throughout your whole life.
Pictured on the left is the Powerpoint part of the event where we got information, and on the right is the panel of Team Baruch members standing in front of the screen giving us first-hand experiences,
Weekly Reflection #2
This week in our FYS class we were exposed to a lot of new information. I got to learn about the study abroad and honors programs that Baruch provides. Honestly, Baruch has a lot to offer in my opinion and it’s pretty cool. That has been my biggest task of this school year: getting acclimated to the environment at Baruch and taking advantage of everything it offers. While I don’t see myself traveling to Spain to study, I can definitely see myself writing for The Ticker or joining Model UN. My workload has picked up just a little ever since last week but my planner and I are learning to deal with it. Granted that Baruch has a lot of networking opportunities, I wish it had just as many food opportunities nearby for a student working on a budget. The only thing harder than my Math class so far has been keeping my expenses low. Speaking of Math, I definitely see myself going to tutoring for that later on this year. Overall, another week has passed by in my college career and I can safely say that I am growing and adapting every week.
Weekly Reflection #1
Although this is “late”, we all had troubles posting our reflections onto the Blog last week so I’m posting it now. My time at Baruch so far has been pretty simple and my week has been nonchalant. Since everything is basically in one building, it feels more like high school than it does college. Although obviously as the school year moves along and the work picks up, I’ll wish I was back in high school. I’m still getting to know my peers and professors, although I can already tell what my teachers are like. I’m still getting to know the campus as well since even if it is just a few buildings, it’s still pretty elaborate. Perhaps the biggest nuisance of Baruch is that I have to sit in the train for an hour every day which is new to me, as every school I’ve ever been to before has been a maximum of twenty minutes away from me. Nonetheless, I’m hoping to be more out there socially and academically as the year progresses and I hope to have a great school year.
Weekly Reflection 1
Finishing my second week of college, I can say that I have adapted more to the Baruch environment. I am more accustomed to my schedule and it is easier to manage my time at home. The main thing we went over in FYS was academic integrity and the importance of it while attending college. We summarized the importance of having it and the consequences of breaking the rules. I totally agree that academic integrity is essential towards college as every student must do what is right when it comes to their education. Now that I am in college, I am aware that the consequences concerning plagiarism or cheating are more severe. My first college test is coming up and it has been repeated to me the consequences of cheating. As I go further into college, I am sure that academic integrity will follow me until I graduate and leave this school.
Club Activities (Enrichment #1)
Hi everyone! My name is Vy. For the first two weeks of school, I have explored around and found clubs and organizations that really strike me as “WOW”. They are Alpha Kappa Psi, Undergraduate Student Government, and Vietnamese Student Association.
I am currently rushing for Alpha Kappa Psi, that means going to a philanthropy, social, and professional event to qualify for an interview. However, I intend on going to all of the events because they are really fun and I learn a lot from each event. So far, I have a streak of 4 for 4: Boba Babble, Bro Panel, Game Night, and Sports Day. My favorite was Sports Day because I get to really interact with the brothers and get to know them better, as well as expand my network and knowledge in the field of marketing, such as getting recommendation from brothers about which internship should I apply to and who I should reach out to. *I’m on the third row, NASA shirt, in the picture below.
As for Undergraduate Student Government, I’m really excited for Homecoming Week and Homecoming Day on September 19! There will be so many games and giveaways, and I get to be a ref for the games on Homecoming Day. I’m also looking forward to planning events as a member of the Student Affairs Subcommittee and hoping to be a Vice Chair as well, given that I will be able to be hands-on with the planning and get to network with more people that work alongside with the Undergraduate Student Government.
Furthermore, even though I have only visited the Vietnamese Student Association’s office to ask various questions, I do look forward to their events that celebrates and acknowledges Vietnames holidays. That’s why I am also applying for a position as Cultural Chair in order to bring more awareness about the Vietnam culture on campus. Looking to be proactive as a first year student!
