Manipulating the past.

After reading the Eric Foner book review I am ever more intrigued into the manipulation of historical periods.   Judging from the review Foner gives a more holistic view on the civil war which differentiates from that of which we are taught.  Digging deeper into the facts behind events such as the true meaning of Memorial Day and the alteration of events such as Gettysburg one can’t help but question all things that is taught.  It is evident that historical periods are manipulated over time to alter ones understanding and true meaning of an event.  It seems like Race and Reunion would be a great read for any individual coming out of high school.  I can see why Blight seems to enjoy the book being that it gives a more holistic view on the events that are often overlooked.
