Preventing the spread of communism

Ronald Reagan leading the charge against Communism in the 1980's.

Three events that I believe are related to each other are: the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Ronald Reagan era. All of these are related to the cold war and containment. These practices of containment all had the purpose to fight communism. The main objective was to stop the spread of communism. The real enemy in all of these events was the Soviet Union. The two wars, were “proxy wars” that pitted democracy against communism.

Ronald Reagan was a powerful force that was entirely against the Soviet Union which he believed was an “evil empire”. After the fall of Vietnam to  communism, Reagan took an extremely aggressive approach to defending democracy. He promoted research of the Strategic Defense Initiative. This was an attempt to shoot down missiles fired at the United States however the technology was not feasible at the time. All of these events are interconnected because of the strong political will to crush communism everywhere.
