Faculty Innovations Showcase (Fall 2020)

The CTL Fall Faculty Innovations Showcase is a series of informal talks that highlight teaching innovations that have emerged or solidified in the transition to online teaching. In this series, Baruch faculty show what they worked on during the Fall 2020 semester.

In the following four showcases we consider how we can celebrate and learn from our moments of success as we have adapted to teaching during COVID. We asked presenters to focus on a specific activity/assignment in a course and to reflect on their process.


Jumbo Courses: A Showcase on Student Engagement & Organization, moderated by, Cheryl Smith, Department of English and the Center for Teaching and Learning

This panel includes faculty who teach jumbo courses: Ken Guest, Sociology and Anthropology, Robin Root, Sociology and Anthropology, and  Patrick Tormey, Marketing and International Business.


Redesigning Approaches to Testing, Assessment, and Feedback: A Showcase moderated by, Seth Graves, Department of English and the Center for Teaching and Learning

This panel features faculty who have redesigned their approaches to Testing, Assessment, and Feedback: Rachel Rys, Writing Center, Valerie Watnick, Law, and  Ron Whiteman, Psychology.


Teaching with Tech: A Showcase moderated by, Allison Lehr Samuels, Center for Teaching and Learning and the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management

This panel features faculty who have been used Microsoft Teams and Excel and Github Classroom for organization, feedback, and engagement in their teaching: Hagop Sarkissian, Philosophy, Frederic Goldstein, Information Systems and Statistics, and Stephen Gosnell,Natural Sciences.


Student Engagement during Synchronous Sessions: A Showcase, moderated by, Hamad Sindhi, Center for Teaching and Learning

This panel features faculty discussing how they promote student engagement during synchronous sessions on Zoom: Cathy Kawalek, Management, Suzanne Milton, Management, Amitai Touval, Marketing and International Business, and Owh Kian (Hogan) Ong, Marketing and International Business.
