my favorite enrichment exercise was the rubin museum. mainly because … I don’t know why lol I  guess its the first one that came to mind. it was nice to see all the sculptures and paintings. the artifacts intrigued many but I didn’t pay much mind to them . it was also my  favorite because I was there for less time than any other workshop . short , amusing and non time consuming

So far this semester, I am feeling pretty proud of myself as you can see from the GIF haha. I’ve been doing really well in all my classes, have gotten myself really comfortable with the school (because of all the great people I met xd), and I even started working out lol. Even though I feel that I could still do more, such as being more open to new experiences (I haven’t joined a club yet, probably going to join one next semester or sophmore year) or just doing better at  getting on top of my work (man that procrastination…), overall I think that I am on the right path to becoming a better version of myself. This first semester in Baruch has been great and I have no doubt that it’ll only get better!

Enrichment Exercise

The best enrichment exercise, in my opinion, was the news literacy one. I found it to be really interesting as it changed my perspective on television news. Before, I basically assumed that all news on TV were reliable, but after the enrichment exercise I got a new perspective in judging whether or not I should believe something. I remember the examples they used: the flying penguins, the girl who couldn’t walk forward properly, and the news caster reporting on the assassination of JFK.  The first one was completely fake, but the second one was where a lot of people got tricked. I, myself, thought the story was true regarding the girl who couldn’t walk but it was in fact a hoax. From this example, I learned not to trust news reports in which has no supporting evidence such as reliable doctors to judge the girl’s condition. The third example of JFK was where I really learned what comes along with a very reliable news source.  All sources of information are always indicated and most importantly, nothing is ever assumed.

This meme is pretty accurate for the way I felt about this semester. I’m not really a fan of going to classes, I would much rather check in a few times per semester and handle teaching myself when it comes to tests. So I guess it’s a good thing Baruch has such a strict attendance policy because I would probably not have gone to many classes.

The best enrichment exercise would be the monologue acts for voices. I found some of the actors highly entertaining and interesting since I usually enjoy watching performances. Most of the monologues opened my eyes to the problems that other people have been going through. Ever since I’ve started college I’ve been disappointed or stressed at some points but attending voices really showed me how great my life is right now. I’ve learned to appreciate what I’ve achieved/gained so far. I hope that all the people who are facing troubles similar to the ones from voices are able to overcome them.

This comic basically represents how I’ve felt since I’ve entered Baruch. I used to go through school not needing to prepare much for my exams. Ever since I entered Baruch I’ve been finding myself studying longer than I ever had in my life, and it still doesn’t seem to be enough. This usually applies to my math class which I can only hope I will manage to pass. It extremely frustrating to put so much effort into something and find out that it still isn’t enough. Well, at least now I know I need to get used to this and spend more time on my studies. I hope I can adjust to my college classes and get used to studying.

Leon harary – LIBRARY

When I think of my first semester in college I think of the 11 floor library in Baruch . I came from a private school that had a library the size of a classroom and I thought it was very unfortunate . I never knew exactly what the use of a library was until I came into Baruch and truthfully it opened my eyes up to a whole new world. I had to do all my work right when I got home and in high school there was no where to do work besides the cafeteria, where there would be so much distractions . I saw what a library was outside of my school but I never knew a college library would work to my advantage like it is now.

I think Library is a place where you can take your mind off everything around you ,if its home problems , school problems , or even if it’s the outside world . It brings you to your own secluded place where no one can bother you. When I first did my first research paper in the library , I had no distractions , no people coming up to me , no mother bothering me , it was just my homework n I and I actually liked that for a change . When I’m home I get distracted more then anyone I know , it can take me almost 2 hours to just finish 1 easy paper unlike the library where it can take me around 1 hour. Unfortunately the library is the last place you want to spend because your stuck doing work all night ; But I don’t look it in that way , because you have to do work either way and if you do it in the library you know you’ll have no distractions at all.

When I came into Baruch I didn’t think that the work would be as hard as it is now but I was wrong. They say as you stay in college you get used too all the hard work and adjust to it easily, but I think its going to take me another semester or two to do so. I also love how Baruch unlike some schools let you take a course over 2 times which lets you get a better mark if your failing it the first time around and I think that will work for my advantage in the future. As I’m writing this I’m sitting in the library reflecting on all the hardships I had through this semester and how Sandy took a toll on not only me but the whole Baruch community. I think that without this Baruch library I wouldn’t be where I am today and happy to be the comfortable freshman In Baruch college.

My favorite FRO enrichment workshop…

was definitely the trip to the Rubin Museum. The museum was actually interesting and I liked the meditation room a lot. But what I enjoyed even more was being able to go out for lunch with some people from our FRO class after our trip to the museum. We ate at Union Square and although it was already a few months into college, it was actually the first time we all formally spoke with each other and exchanged numbers. I believe we all feel closer as a class and although we all will probably never see/talk to each other again after the first semester, I’m still glad we got to bond over that trip.

Good Luck on finals everyone!! 😀
