Excited wasn’t the word! I was ecstatic to start school this year. I wanted to be a part of everything, meet everyone, and become a friend with everyone. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm has waned greatly and been checked because there didnt seem to be many who shared my sentiments. I’m not sure but I tend to view a lot of these people as boring. I do like the staff in the school. They are extremely helpful and do whatever they can to keep you in school and pass your classes. I joined maybe 5 or 6 clubs on my first day here, but I’ve actually kept up with maybe only two. Health and Fitness being the best. Love the president, love the team, love the workout. The only thing that is pretty horrible about this school is the commute. I spend about 5 hours a day just traveling. I couldn’t definitively tell anyone right now if I am definitely staying here, but I do like it a little and until I find somewhere or something else that interests me, I can pass the time here.

An experience that has probably changed my life would have to be going with my best friend to visit her dad at the hospital after a heart transplant. I have always had a fear of hospitals because of past events and going to NYM hospital and seeing her dad in the ICU made me overcome my fear and at the same time appreciate how fortunate I am and how good things do happen to people. Amazing things are done at the hospital that a hundred years ago, people could not even imagine.

One experience in my life that really changed the way i view things was when My parents got divorced and I moved here. Over here it’s hard, a very tough lifestyle. It really made me realize how important family is, because i felt completely alone because I have no other family here besides my mom, stepdad and my sister. I don’t want to get into detail about this. its not something I want to publish on the internet.

I was really disappointed with voices, because My MONOLOGUE did not get performed. i WAS CLEVER AND IT WAS 15 SECONDS LONG, THEY COULD HAVE PERFORMED IT FOR EVERYONE. there were other monologues that were ten minutes long and were soooooo depressing. Really messed up my mood. I give voices a thumbs down for this performance.

I was honestly not excited at all to start school, not because i was afraid to start college, but because I did not want to stay in the city. I really dislike the city. i wanted to be in a different school but there were some issues with my applications and it totally messed me up. Baruch was my last choice and one of the easiest too because its very cheap.  When 1st semester started i was really bummed out and found out that i had the same boring classes I had in high school and i was disappointed by that. The only actual class i like is Communications because I will actually use that in the future. I hate that the campus is very small. One building basically. I also don’t like how there are so many segregated groups around the school. I was not happy at all. The only reason I put up with it, is because I met an awesome girl and she brightens up my day. That’s it. My commute is very easy. i have it a lot easier than many students so i shouldn’t be whining too much because I live on Ave C and 12th st so it takes me 25 minutes to get here on a daily basis. AND lastly i do not plan on staying here. I plan on switching out at the end of the year. Irene I loved your class. your’s and my Communications class were the best because I had fun in them. Thank you

In August, I was very excited to be entering college. After struggling in high school due to the fact I had a baby, I never even imagined coming to college. My plan was to work and support my child. When I finished t fh.s I was so proud of myself and I was looking forward to college. I expected college to be a new world of independence, work, and meeting people. My 1st sememster could not have been better. My classes were great and the other students from my freshman group LC14 made this semester a good one for me. The best thing about this sememster was having the same people around me most of the time. You develop bonds which makes school a little easier to get through. I also liked my psych class alot. I am totally interested in everything involving psychology now and I could not have done that without coming to college. I did not join any clubs because I had no free time to do any, but hopefully in the next semesters to come I will join a performing club and be an active student in Baruch. Commuting to Baruch is okay for me. I live in Brooklyn so it doesn’t really take long and I am used to riding the subways. My 1st sememster was difficult because I had various things going on in my lfe. Now that I know what to look forward to, I can manage my time better and hopefully become fully engaged with everything at Baruch.

I was really looking forward to Voice. The last skit put on by the NYU performers was fantastic so I wanted to see what the next skit Mason Hall had in store for us. When voices started, I knew it would be different from the last performance. The 4 speakers captivated from the 1st moment. Hearing the 1st speech made me want to hear the second and so on. I felt a sense of pride knowing that my classmates were writing these creative pieces. I could relate to what many of the poems said being that they talked about stress, school, and the city to name a few. I am a student in the city stressed by school. I definitely felt a connection between the speakers and the audience. In the end, all I could wish was that I had written a monologue that had gotten choosen to be read because it was not what I expected, but much more than what I expected. I really enjoyed wathcing voices.

Everything Irene sent me about career planning and starr search is awesome ! YOU ROCK IRENE !!! As a freshman, and I can say this for a few of my classmates as well, I could really use that information. I know that in college I should find an advisor for searching jobs and planning my career. I had a rocky start however. Working two full time jobs and attending school full time with my son at home proved to be a great hassle for me. It is really seeming unbearable. I was hoping to use all of the informat get a job in the school because it would put me close to school so traveling wouldn’t be a problem and so I can have a part time job. I plan to use all of this information because in my case, I need as much help as I can get. Using this info. will definitely me to plan and organize, and maybe get a job in school. I am very grateful to have received this information and I will utilize it.

When the semester first started I was excited about being in Baruch because it was always my number one choice, but I was so afraid that the work load was going to be too much for me. Coming from a high school that didn’t give even half the amount of work they give at Baruch was tough at first. But eventually I got used to it. I enjoyed meeting everyone in the LC and I’m glad that we all stayed friends throughout the semester without any serious conflicts. Sure we were confined to the same set of people for the whole semester but I made some good relationship with these guys and apart from that, clubs helped me make new friends. I was able to join PSA, Bollywood Jalwa and spend some time with ALPHA. I was able to gain the secretary position in the Bollywood Jalwa club. So far I’ve enjoyed my first semester. My commute to Baruch is about one hour in total, without train traffic. It can be a real pain to have to get to class for 8 am and 9 am. Yes I do think I will be staying at Baruch college for the next four years.

My 1st semester was somewhat how I pictured it. It went a little better than I expected. I was really looking forward to going away for college so I was scared I would not make friends at a commuter school. I actually ended up making a lot of new friends and a couple close ones that I will actually have class with next semester! I did not like how “professional” and “uptight” baruch felt at first. There isnt exactly a campus where you can just relax and hangout with friends so the whole city aspect felt restricting to me. I do like that there are so many options around us and how I can go to the park by school when it is nice out. My commute is not too bad, about an hour. As of now, I think I will stay in baruch because it is great for what I want to major in, Business.
