The Fair Deal focused on improving the social safety net and raising the standard of living of ordinary Americans. He called on Congress to increase the minimum wage, start a program of national health insurance, and expand public housing, social security, and aid to education. Truman`s task was to preside over the transition from a wartime to a peacetime economy. Without the Fair Deal, American society may be way different today. We may not have health insurance plans, social security, a manageable minimum wage, or an efficient educational system. This would affect my life in every way that I live would be different without the Fair Deal.
