Howard Needham Response

Howard Needham of Silver Spring, Md. has been making and repairing violins, violas, cellos and guitars since a visit to a repair shop sparked a career change in the early 1970s. He had a strong passion for music and woodwork. Needham is a diligent man. He does what he loves to do. This is something that most people nowadays pursue after but end up living another type of life. Listening to his music was very pleasant and put be in a relaxing state. I have loved classical music ever since my dad introduced it to me as a kid. He told me how it relaxes people and helps them focus and do work. Overall, Howard Needham’s music is very soothing for me and gives me the ability to do this assignment.

He started working on music in the late 20’s, which is very rare for a violin artist. I thought it was interesting how he not only plays violin, but he also workshops and fixes up instruments as well. He was a master at what he did. The article mentioned how well he fixed up instruments that are very difficult to repair. He is quoted saying that “I would do it even if there was no money involved”. This showed me how he really just loved to play violin and had a hunger for music. Most people only care about fame, money, and power. Needham doesn’t mind not having those things. I thought that that was a key component of the man’s success. He didn’t have to be Mozart; he could just be Howard Needham.
