Data from CTL’s COVID-19 Student Experience Survey, a longitudinal study dating back to Spring 2020, show that a significant percentage of Baruch students report mental health challenges and struggle to find a sense of belonging and community in their college experience. Many express an increased need for empathy and understanding from their instructor. In this working session, facilitated by Katherine Tsan & Ron Whiteman, we will generate and discuss actionable steps we can take to infuse more care, compassion, and concern for students into our courses. Focus will particularly be placed on how we might improve students’ sense of connectedness to us as instructors, but also to other students. We’ll wrap with some discussion revolving around our future hopes for more systemically remedying this important issue.
