In a series of sessions this semester, the Baruch Center for Teaching and Learning is hosting digital space to playtest generative AI platforms for academic purposes. Please join us for any of them! From the newest newbie to the seasoned user, sessions are applicable to any AI literacy level. These sessions will be 90 mins and on Zoom. Please register for each session separately.
- Session 1: AI for assignments and activities (March 21, 2-3:30pm): During this session we will test out various generative AI platforms for developing and enriching assignment and activity materials and co-thinking with AI to brainstorm course activities that are responsive to learning goals. Throughout, we will discuss how to motivate students to use AI ethically and keep the learning experience humanized.
- Session 2: AI for tutoring and feedback (April 11, 2-3:30pm): During this session we will explore ways to prompt AI to be a learning practice conversation partner. We’ll test out prompting AI with different scenarios and try out ways that AI can assist students with studying course content or preparing for class, as well as its capacities for giving feedback, such as on writing or subject knowledge.
- Session 3: AI for academic research (May 2, 2-3:30pm): During this session we will look at how AI-enhanced library databases work to hone your research and give you suggestions, and test out some new tools, such as Perplexity and Elicit that help look for academic sources. We will also question how to use AI ethically to jump-start thinking about and starting to draft research papers and discuss some uses we would put in the “red/ethically and pedagogically problematic” category, the “yellow/borderline” category and the “green/ethically ok” category of usage.
