Quantitative Research Round Table

March 20, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm EDT

As part of its SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) initiative, the CTL is hosting an informal discussion focusing on the development of quantitative research questions. Ted Joyce (Economics & Finance), Ron Whiteman (Psychology) and Steve Young (Psychology) will discuss their work and Don Waisanen (Marxe School of Public and International Affairs) will facilitate the discussion.

Some topics the session might include:

  • What are some examples of research questions that are best asked by using quantitative methods (vs. qualitative methods)?
  • What are the general challenges / pitfalls you’ve faced in developing your quantitative research question(s)?
  • How did you best move from an abstract research question to a concrete means for quantifying your measures of interest?
  • How has your awareness of quantitative data structure (various scales of measurement) helped inform how you frame / adjust your research question(s)?

Light refreshments will be served. No RSVP necessary, stop by for a few minutes or stay the whole time.
