Online learning can be an isolating experience for students and faculty, which makes it especially important to create a virtual classroom environment that is welcoming to all and provides space for meaningful human interactions. This session is an opportunity to connect with faculty across various disciplines who are preparing to teach online and to share ideas and techniques for how to humanize the online classroom. This workshop will model ways to build classroom community and bridge asynchronous and synchronous activities. In preparation for the workshop, we ask that participants read and engage with Cathy Davidson’s article, “The Single most Essential Requirement in Designing a Fall Online Course”, which will inform the synchronous session.
