When You Can’t Require the Web Camera: exploring alternative options for student engagement

September 2, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

You may have seen or heard about new guidance from the university about having students on camera during live class sessions. Simply summarized, faculty may not require students to turn on their cameras, they must obtain consent from students to be recorded, and they must inform students of these things both in the syllabus and in person.

In this session, we will briefly review communications from CUNY central and Baruch about holding class meetings on Zoom (or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra). The bulk of our time will be spent in open discussion about how to meet the requirements in a way that aligns with your course goals. We welcome individual questions, and there will be time for brainstorming ideas to make your live class sessions active and student-centered, with or without cameras on.

Register in advance for this meeting:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
