Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry Sinks the Unbelievable Game Winning Shot, The Internet Loses Its Minds

The 2016 NBA season is looking more predictable than determining the color of an Oscar winner, and in this case, for the NBA, it’s golden.

Yes, the Golden State Warriors led by the bad man himself, Stephen Curry, have taken the league by storm, setting an record with their incredible start to the season, posting a win-loss total of an uncanny 53-5 (as of March 1st). They are currently on pace to demolish the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ 72-10 tally — and the best hope to throw up a roadblock in the Warriors’ bid to unseat Michael, Scottie and Dennis’ place atop the mountain came on February 27th in the form of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

Greek music fans are still shocked at the sudden death of Pantelis Pantelidis, the 32-year-old singer-songwriter who died in a car crash on the morning of February 18. But his death marked much more than a tragic end for a young and talented performer — it signified a prominent loss in the rare music industry commodity of Greek singer-songwriters.

Since the early 20th century, the creative business model used in the music world has remained largely unchanged: lyricists and composers wrote songs they sold to well-known singers to perform and record. Many artists hardly ever had any part in process of musical composition, and composers’ songs never succeeded as well without major name recognition behind them. The voice of a great singer and the compositions of an exceptional songwriter were soon found to be the perfect formula for a successful record.

Pantelidis was one of the rare exceptions to the rule — which makes his death so devastating to the music world.

How Good Was Kobe Bryant?

At the end of the 2015-2016, one of the NBA’s best gunslingers, and a future Hall of Famer, will ride off into the sunset and retire from the game of basketball.

Kobe Bryant, 37, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar shooting guard, put it all on the line every time he set foot on the basketball court. He is a 5 time NBA Champion, 2 time NBA Finals MVP and an 18 time NBA All-Star. And he is considered by many as one of greatest players ever to set foot on an NBA court.

Unfortunately, Kobe won’t get a chance to go out a champion this time around, considering the Lakers hold the worst record in the Western Conference. So, as “The Black Mamba” prepares to lace up his sneakers for the final games of this regular season, the question that so many fans, journalists, reporters, and players are mulling over is simple: “How good was Kobe Bryant?”

Former Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin and the Linsanity craze that swept the city in 2012.

Former Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin.

During the existence of the New York Knicks, a few larger than life sensations have left its fandom in a frenzy — Jeremy Lin, Carmelo Anthony and Phil Jackson have all instilled a level of hope when they first hit the court (or board room in the case of Jackson) that perhaps the team is going to turn things around.

Which Kanye West Will We Get Next?

“I miss the Old Kanye/Straight from the ‘Go Kanye/Chop up the soul Kanye/Set on his goals Kanye” – Kanye West

IMG_5891

With the help of footwear/fashion giant adidas, Kanye West pulled off a creative coop on February 11th: he debuted his new album, The Life Of Pablo and his clothing line Yeezy Season 3 both at Madison Square Garden.

The World’s Most Famous Arena never quite had such an “expect the unexpected” feeling like this since a Game 7 of an NBA Finals: the arena was dark with clouds of smoke surfacing from what looked like a blanket covering a stage. Suddenly, the Kardashians and the Jenners make their red carpet entrance. Kanye West steps to the DJ turntables and “Ultra Light Beams” blasts in The World’s Most Famous Arena as the models underneath the blanket were revealed standing still in Yeezy Season Gear.

For two hours, the Garden crowd partied like rock stars, using Kanye West’s album as their soundtrack. The old Kanye, “chop up the soul Kanye,” was back and never better.

This Week In TV: The Untimely Passing of Big Ang (And Why It Matters)

You may have noticed the name of my mini-blog is This Week IN TV, not this week ON TV. And there’s a good reason for the grammatical switch of phrase.

Television is a pop culture monster in of itself, an entire realm that one can talk for hours about. And everyone likes their own mix of the shows and personalities that it features. There in lies the beauty of TV, there’s so much offered and one can pick and choose as to what is right for them.

So let’s get down to it:

When it comes to reality TV, I have an immense love-hate relationship with the popular genre: I think it’s the dumbest form of entertainment in the history of the world.

However, if I am extremely ill, or if I have nothing else to do, or if I I see that there’s a 12 hour marathon of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills followed by another 12 hours of Beverly Hills housewife Lisa Vanderpump’s spinoff Vanderpump Rules, I’m likely going to sit down and watch attentively as I waste a day of my life. (And, full disclosure, I absolutely love the Kardashians and their show. You can hate me. I know. I’ll get over it.)

Disappointing Celebrity Clothing Collaborations Show Us Not Everyone Is Cut Out For Fashion

Talent, fortune, fame, style…some people seem to have it all. Some only have one or two of the above but they still have something that most of us don’t – the opportunity to slap their name on something and profit from it.

One way of doing this is via endorsement deals, like when you see Sofia Vergara’s face on, well, everything: Cover Girl, Pepsi, Head & Shoulders, and a clothing line at Kmart of all places (Vergara always looks so chic and polished on the red carpet that it’s hard to understand why she didn’t go for a more upscale department store line). As it stands now, she joins the likes of Nicki Minaj, whose Kmart line reflects her loud, playful style but in even cheaper, gaudier materials.

These are just two examples of how celebrity collaborations are almost always a disappointment. So I say why even bother?
