Proposal
For this project Jing, Jianping and I are going to reimagine project 2 by creating a podcast. We are going to discuss the issues that are going on in Wikipedia towards female editors. Those negative harassment and actions that the female editors had faced while writing in Wikipedia. The unfair treatment that the female editors had faced. Also the huge gender gap in Wikipedia.
Comparing podcast to essay, podcast might have a lower percentage that the audience won’t be able to focus and finish the whole argument. Podcasts are also shorter and it’s a faster way of understanding what the podcast is trying to tell. Some challenges that we might face is that it might be hard to catch the audience’s attention and that we can’t throw evidence to show the audience. This will just make it no big difference from an essay. For this podcast we are planning to talk about what we faced or had seen in Wikipedia towards females. The primary reason for why we had chosen this topic is because this has been a huge issue in Wikipedia and that it had been there for a long period of time with no solution. Also that it seems like not everyone had realized that these issues had been there for a real time. For example, before doing project 2 I didn’t know that there was such a big gender gap in Wikipedia. All I know is that not all information in Wikipedia is reliable. So this is really important for us to tell the audience the issues that have been going on in Wikipedia.

Who Is Your Favorite Actor?
My favorite actor is YiFei Liu. Her English name is called Crystal Liu. She is the actor for the main character in the Disney movie Mulan. She was born in August 25, 1987 in Hubei, China. She started this career at the age of 15. Unlike other actors who won’t really want to miss any opportunity in participate in a tv show, drama or movies. She is more into looking at what she think is suitable for her, what is challenging and what she had not tried out before. She don’t really go on tv shows and most of her work is movies.
I really like how she knows what she wants. Also she is really hard working and very self-discipline person. For example, in todays society many people spend most of their time in social media and technology. However, according to yifei’s partner during break time instead of checking her phone she would read books and she don’t really take her phone with her. This is what I really like about her and it’s also what I wanted to be like.

7 day log
DAY 1:
I was trying to create a account in the library near where I lived. I used the library’s computer but didn’t work out. Many IP address were blocked. At the end I used my phone and connected to the library wifi and it finally works. Then I went checking if my Wikipedia account actually works.
DAY 2:
After my account is finally created I was looking at what Wikipedia wanted to show me. It was showing me what I can do, where to find what and editing. Later I started the Wikipedia adventure it shows me how Wikipedia works and I was just following the instruction.
DAY 3:
I started looking at articles and see if I know how to edited. I also learned to create a page to write my own stuff. After that I went back to Black board and open the red list link again looking for which one should I write about. However, I was in between a few women who were on the red list. So at the end I still didn’t pick one.
DAY 4:
Instead of choosing someone to write about for my project. I went looking at 2 different document. I was comparing the two documents since I got a little curious when I hard that most of the time women had less information then men. One is about Xiaozhan who is a male actress and the other one is Liuyifei. What I found was that although Liuyifei are a more experience actress and that she started acting earlier than Xiaozhan. In Wikipedia for Xiaozhan’s page there are much more information about him but for Liuyifei there are much less information. It might be that he had acted more films and had more accomplishment as singer as well. However, his information is pretty well updated everything is updated to 2022.
DAY 5:
I went back to the red list and opened those that shows some information. I realized many have information but there aren’t any picture. Also those that have information only have a little information. I also found many women who were on the red list familiar. Later I figure out that they were on the Chinese shows and Chinese drama that I had watched before. I was kind of surprise that they don’t have any information about them in Wikipedia since they are also celebrities’.
DAY 6:
I start looking through which women on the red list should I chose and which do I already know some information about. At the end I decided to pick one that doesn’t have any information or only a little or doesn’t have a picture and that I watched some shows or drama’s that she was in. I picked 4 women who were on that list and I went checking which one do I know more about and which one should I write about. So I went looking at their film work and songs etc.
DAY 7:
I had choose to write about Wu yang who is one the red list. Also that for her page it doesn’t have a image of her or much information. There’s only one four sentence talking about her name and her past experience. All of those experience are before 2018. However, I had watched one Chinese drama that was released in 2020 and she was one of the actress in the drama.

Why revisiting the Black Panther revolution resonates today
This video was an interview on Stanley Nelson the film that he made. Stanley Nelson talk about how he black panthers were being misunderstood. The film that he made were to explain what had happened before with the black panthers. He also talks about how music in a film are one way to make the audience feel how it was like back then. He then talks about how people might thinks black panthers party’s were something outside of civil rights but he thinks that it is part of the civil rights movement. I think making a film that talks about black panthers are a good way of explaining and stopping the misunderstanding of the party. It’s also an easier way for people now to understand and feel what it was like before.
At first I thought the movies was going to be not boring/not attractive but as it goes on I found it pretty interesting. It wasn’t just giving information about the panthers. It’s actually grabbing the audience into the movie. While watching I’m able to feel the feelings the emotions that the actors are trying to give and shown. The movie shows the leaders of the black panthers and struggles that the panthers are facing from the FBI. Throughout the whole movie the FBI is trying all different ways to kill the leaders of the panthers. They had ask the member called bill where the panthers are. The FBI went in the apartment start shooting the guns at everyone. Calling them out and then they went up to Fred who was being drugged. Fred ‘s wife who is 8 month pregnant was told to get out the the room and by the time she walked out they had killed Fred. This shows the brutality and violence of the FBI. They seems to wanting to hide something to brainwash people from thinking like the black panthers. Trying to avoid the black panthers in helping other getting their equality and rights.

Interview question
Hi, I’m Maggie Lin. I’m a freshman majoring in accounting. I’m introverted and I will only talk to people who I know. I like to spend most of my time alone watching Chinese and Korean dramas. I was born in brooklyn but grew up in china and at the age of eight I came back to America. I speak Chinese most of the time and I’m a very unconfident person.
I spoke to Jing. We were in the same English and politics class last semester. We both like to spend our time mostly alone and we both are introverted people. We both like to drink bubble milk tea and we like to read Chinese books more.
