Nashauna John- Remix
For my remix project I will be making a presentation reflecting my research paper. On each slide there will be examples of how Biggie smalls had an influence on people. I will be doing this so that there can be a visual representation of the things I mentioned in my paper. I didn’t get as far yet but I am thinking of adding interviews that people had with Biggie. This will add an element that my paper didn’t have because the words are coming exactly from him. My biggest challenges is finding the right interviews and pictures that’s relevant to my argument. The best thing I love about my remix is that I’m doing something that I’m actually interested in and not just doing it because it was assigned. My personal motivation is to get it over with and complete it as soon as possible.

I edited this photo to be very dark but still bright in a way. As you can see the water flowing is clear but everything surrounding the water is dark. I did this so the interpretation can relate to real life situations. The message this photo can give is that it doesn’t matter what’s surrounding you as long as you keep going you will be fine. This photo and message can connect to people who love nature and are spiritual. People who naturally love nature feel like that’s their comfort and they go there to clear their minds or just for peace. People who are spiritual tend to use water for everything. For example, Christians always have a bottle containing “holy water” that they use when praying for people. Also, when getting baptized you’re being ducked in a pool of water or in the ocean.

Since I went over my paper multiple times I was able to summarize it for what it was to my mother. She said I spoke strongly about my connections which is the same way I did in my paper. She also said when I was talking about some articles I didn’t know the name of it so I went back and fixed those mistakes to make it more clear.

When I first heard that a black woman( Kamala Harris) is going to be vice president I was so happy because we have never seen this in history but I am coming to a realization that maybe this can all be in the act of getting Joe Biden to be in the favor of the people. From reading this article I feel like he flipped back and forth. The way he described young black people was very degrading then further go on to say, ”The end result is they’re about to knock my mother on the head with a lead pipe, shoot my sister, beat up my wife, take on my sons.” His words and actions are very contradicting because he then go on to say that everyone make mistakes. It’s like when you and someone get in an argument and they say something really hurtful because they know it will get to you. He can really believe these things in his mind but won’t prove it until he is satisfied with his goals. The limits of representation in this article basically mean just because someone in power is the same race as you doesn’t mean they will represent you how you want them to. For example it states,” But her race and gender identity as a Black woman do not guarantee that she will champion a Black-centered agenda.” This quote emphasizes that you can’t put your full trust in someone especially in politics.

- History of rap music, the artist Biggie Smalls
- The history of rap music exposes a lot that goes down in the industry. Several social issues are mentioned throughout his songs
- This piece of art brings out multiple issues in society
- I chose this form of art because I can express myself in many ways and touch upon several topics.
- Biggie Smalls uses this form of art to express the downfalls and hardships in society that people in power don’t acknowledge or pretend it’s not happening.

The piece “Untitled” by David Wojnarowicz uses rhetorical properties to contribute to it’s meaning . Such as the way he centered a little boy in the middle of the text, letting us know that this text will be something about a little boy. The picture of the boy is black and white but the way his features and hair texture is, makes me realize this is a white boy. This text resonates with social concerns today because the main idea of this article is that saying this little boy as he grows up will have a lot of issues in society the day he opens up about being with another male. This issue is still present today because many males who are in the LGBTQ community go through problems on a day to day basis. Using the right rhetorical properties in texts allow readers to understand what’s going on and it’s severity. For example, in this text the author says a lot of negative things may happen when he grow up and decides to come out of the closet. Therefore, someone who may read this that’s in the same situation may cause fear.

As I went through my sentence analysis I noticed that in the start of my essay I would have a lot of simple sentences and as you read later in the essay it’s mostly compound and complex compound sentences. I also noticed that some of my sentences can be combined while others can be cut. I would say my writing style starts off simple because it’s just the introduction but it becomes complex at the end. I will fix my excessive and choppy sentences. These changes will enhance my writing because it will allow readers to know my main idea clearly and it will allow them to think critically.

June Jordan finds fault in the quote ,” One of the most unselfish missions ever undertaken by one nation in defense of another” because she describes it to be a monstrous lie. She believes white people in power is never direct within their faults and tend to down play situations. She says after his quote,” You let any black child lead you to the truth: let him tell you about the twelve days of Christmas” carpet bombing”, My lai, day by day incineration of human lives, the mining of rivers .” She is basically saying for each genocide it was played out as if it was something else. She also believes that white English is the language of the powerful and black English is the language of the powerless.
I think she means the main issue isn’t about black or white English but it has to do with which race has the most power in America. She continuously state that all of them white folks ruling the country all talk that standard white English. The ”standard” white English is considered normal where as black English is looked as broken down or not proper English. I am confused as to why there is a comparison between white vs. black English when white people wouldn’t be considered speaking proper English when talking to a British person. In America black people are looked as the less important when the white is the most important. I believe this all comes back to money talks. You only have a say if your pockets are wealthy.

Money is everything to this country and if you don’t have it you might as well keep your mouth shut. I have seen many resources in my neighborhood that have been closed down or replaced with something else that doesn’t make any sense. For example, there was an ice cream shop that had a lot of computers that the public could use and it was $5 per hour. Also, they would let you print out papers and that would be .25 cents per hour. I loved this place so much and unfortunately it got closed down for literally no reason. I also noticed many cleaners in my area being replaced by private businesses which is an issue because now if we want to go to a cleaners we have to go somewhere really far which is so ridiculous. The worst thing about it is that these business owners aren’t having a choice or given any options. Their only choice is to move along and find somewhere else to go. In Dickinson’s text it states,” It also served as an opportunity for the business community to implement a panoply of policies that pushed poor and working-class people out of the city, or at least to the margins.” History always repeats itself and we can see that because this was happening in the 1970s and it’s still occurring today. In my opinion this meme is saying to me that moving in another direction away from the government’s norms will have a consequence unless it’s brining in a profit for them.
