Raina Allen- Future Memory

By the year 2022, I anticipate having made some remarkable progress regarding my writing goals. I can envision, with ease, my future self feeling fulfilled by all of the goals I will have actualized through some hard work and focus during my first year at Baruch.

For starters, I can imagine my future self pleased by how much I now enjoy the art of writing as opposed to solely writing for the sake of completing my school assignments. I can foresee myself accomplishing my current goal of using writing as a creative outlet, to be used to relieve all aspects of stress and tension in my life. I will have carried out this goal that I had been working to achieve for so long through utilizing all of the resources Baruch has to offer, while also pushing myself outside of school to write about whatever is on my mind or troubling me. I will have found a group of people to encourage my reactive writing by joining a student publications group such as Refract Magazine or The Lexington Review. Additionally, I will have worked to improve my writing for various writing assignments by joining a peer-review group where I can get a myriad of critiques and constructive criticisms pertaining to my work.

I imagine myself looking back at taking English 2100 and thinking to myself how much my writing has changed, but also how much my writing goals have evolved from what they once were. I anticipate being on a whole new writing journey by then, hopefully, striving to reach new heights of growth, and continue to push myself regarding the role writing plays in my life.

  1. I like the way you’re looking towards the future where you already have a goal in your mind. It’s really cool that you want to join a student group. I think it’s also good that you want to try to write about what you are thinking about or how you’re feeling. If you stick to your plans I know you will achieve every goal you want.

  2. I think it is a good idea to go and look back on your writing for this class years into the future and see how much you’ve changed as a writer. It’ll be a reminder to you of how much you have developed as a writer.

  3. I really agree that it is extremely important to actually enjoy writing, rather than just trying to get it done, as writing can be used as a healthy form of self-expression. It’s also comforting to read other people’s writing and know that you’re not alone, as you see that they have similar struggles. I think it’s very admirable that you want to join a student publications group. There, you will be surrounded by like-minded people who want to use writing as a creative outlet. I also hope to join a peer-review group as it is always helpful to have an extra pair of eyes look over an assignment. I wish you much luck in ENG2100, I’m sure you will get a lot out of it.

  4. I think it’s a great idea that you are planning on joining student publication groups to better your writing and will use writing as a creative outlet to express your emotions. Both are effective ways to better your writing! You seem very dedicated towards completing your goals and think you have a solid plan to achieve them.
