Who do you think you are?” Well, for starters I am Bianca Nardella and as of a few weeks ago, I am a freshman here at Baruch College. As of right now I am just an average 18-year-old girl who likes to have a good time. To be honest, I wasn’t too sure of it I wanted to attend Baruch in the fall. I was torn between staying home and commuting or going away and dorming. I obviously picked to stay home and commute and so far its not that bad. To me, school is school no matter what, and its up to you to make it fun for yourself. One of my concerns starting college at Baruch is keeping my GPA up. It is a lot harder to keep your grades up when you are taking one or two tests, as opposed to 10-15 tests like high school. Another major concern is managing my time and making sure I leave enough free time to do my schoolwork. In high school I didn’t get as much homework as I do in college and it is definitely a major change. Although it will be difficult, as time goes on I will learn different strategies for managing my time properly. My last and important concern at Baruch was making friends. Luckily I made a few friends the day of orientation and continued to keep in touch with them up until school started. Not only that, but I also know quite a few people from high school that are in my classes now. So far, my Baruch college experience is very different than my high school experience. In high school, everyone is babied and the teacher basically “holds your hand.” They yell at you for being on a cell phone, they yell at you for chewing gum, they yell at you if you are roaming the halls, ect. In college, its not that the professors do not care, but it is that they believe that we are responsible and mature enough to make the right choices, such as going to class, paying attention, do homework (even if he/she doesn’t check it). College has a lot more freedom and allows you to do what you want to do. I think that my first year at college will not only teach me more and educate me more, but it will also mature me and allow me to become a more responsible person.
