A.- I’m Alicea Ulmer a freshman student-athlete at Baruch College.
B.- My top three concerns about my freshman year at Baruch College are balancing my studies with basketball, fitting in with a new group of people and adjusting to being on my own. I know from past experience being a student-athlete is challenging, but high school is nothing like college. So coming into Baruch I was concerned if I would be able to handle the responsibility. At the same time I am also concerned about finding a group of friends that fit me, because sometimes I can be shy which makes it hard to meet new people. I was concerned about adjusting to being on my own because since I’m dorming I have to be more mature and responsible. There is noone there to baby me and do things for me.
C.-The whole idea of being independent will make my Baruch College experience different than high school. The professors are not like high school teachers or guidance counselors who basically holds your hand and guides you through the school year. They expect you to be on top of your own problems whether it be getting yourself a tutor, completing assignments or getting your required books for class.
D.- I think my first year of college will take me out of my comfort zone and get me out of my shyness. It will also make me a more mature and responsible individual.
