A) Tell us who you think YOU are?
Answering questions like this was and still is hard for me because whatever I say will be biased in my favor and how I view myself won’t be the same as how someone else views me. I’m currently a freshman at Baruch College. I used to one of the five million Asian kids that went to Stuyvesant High School. I like long walks on the beach and candlelit dinners. Cool story right? I’ll tell it again if you want me to.
B) Share your top 3 concerns about your freshmen year at Baruch College and explain why
1) GPA-I was a slacker in high school. Barely went to class and only work I’ve actually put some effort in doing were the final projects. I rather not repeat that again because that minimum wage retail job doesn’t cut it for me. Nothing against the people that work retail fulltime, but I’m just not about that life.
2) I really hope I don’t get morning classes again. Mornings aren’t for me. That’s why I barely showed up to 1st period classes in high school. Even if I am in class, I don’t get much out of it since I’m still half asleep and not focused.
3) Baruch doesn’t let you take any classes related to your major until junior year. But is that really a good choice? Lettuce be cereal here, a lot of people already have a place they say they will major in but if they don’t take any classes, how will they know they like it? By the time junior year comes and we actually take some major related classes, it’d be hard to switch majors since you might have to delay graduating at the same time with the people you came in with.
C) So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College Experience different from your high school experence. Think beyond your first semester.
Readings on readings on readings. I wouldn’t mind if the articles are interesting but they don’t appeal to me and I have paraphrase the readings so I can remember the details the next day. In high school, teachers actually cared about you. They had to care about you because if too many kids failed the class then it would look bad for them. In college, the whole class can fail and not a single damn will be given by the professor or the college. They also noted which notes to copy down. Professors just keep talking and you’re free to make your own choice to whether copy or not. The people in classes are also different. In high school, everyone was the same age and in my case classes are pretty much all white/Asian. In college, some people are a lot older and a lot more diverse.
D) How do you think your first year of college will change you? Again, think beyond classes. Think Professionally and personally.
I actually show up to every class in college compared to high school. Hopefully I can learn good study habits to carry on throughout my undergraduate years.
