A) Tell us who you think YOU are?
It’s difficult to describe myself in words, even though I know who I
am better than anybody else; or at least I think I do, because someone
else might have an easier time making the description. I can tell you
things about me, stating facts that will help you draw certain
conclusions. For example: I am Polish, I live with my parents and
brother, I am eighteen years of age, I want a dog (but that’s a much
longer story for a different occasion), I treasure family, I’ve lived
in Staten Island for the last four years, my favorite TV show is
Supernatural, I don’t really have a favorite food even though I do
think sweet and sour chicken is pretty damn good, and I am attending
Baruch college as a freshman. All these things are a relatively
thorough introduction to the being who is Kamil, but are not enough to
understand me as a person.
B) Share your top 3 concerns about your freshmen year at Baruch
College and explain why.
Prior to starting the fall semester of my freshman year I had many
more concerns than I do now that I am about a quarter into the
semester. I suppose that I am concerned about how hard of a grader
each of my teachers will be, especially my English professor. I
imagine that some professors will give students As of effort while
others will stick to their rubric and rip each of their students a new
one by giving only few assignments, with no chance for an A on the
first couple, and then counting them equally. I guess I will find out
soon enough about this semester, but will face a similar thing every
semester for all my college years. Another concern I have is related
to requirements for majors. I suppose I can just Google actual credit
requirements and get an answer, but how about if things don’t go as
planned. Like, if I change my major or if a course I’ve been meaning
to take is not available for another semester and I cannot graduate on
time? Anyway, my third and final concern is just finding a job after
college. Will I find one, will I miss something in college that would
have helped my resume, or will I want to work in a different field? I
guess that the best I can do is put in effort and hope for the best.
C) So far, what do you think will make your Baruch College Experience
different from your high school experience. Think beyond your first
semester.
Well, I think that the fact that I am now in a college will make my
experience different from high school. The professors no longer
personally care if you do your work, for the most part; this is an
improvement because I do my work and it just bothered me when I had a
teacher on my tail all of the time. Now I’m officially responsible for
myself, which again is an improvement because it makes me officially
an adult.
D) How do you think your first year of college will change you? Again,
think beyond classes. Think professionally and personally.
Of course college will change me. The college experience, I assume,
will get me ready for the rest of my life; preparing me for the
professional world, and provide me with friends that will last a life
time. I’ll hopefully develop a more precise philosophy on life that
will lead me to happiness and a peace of mind, making my future what
I’d like it to be.
