Charity idea

I believe that we should donate the money we raise from our game a thon to the Make- a-Wish foundation.   The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a 501 non-profit organization founded in the United States that grants wishes to children (three years old to Seven-teen years old) who have life-threatening medical conditions. The charity now operates in forty-seven countries around the world through thirty-six partner offices.  Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work.  The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wishexperience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.  They only reason the Make-A-Wish Foundation is so successful is through there donations and their numerous volunteers.  I believe that we should donate to this charity because of the type of work they do.  I personally volunteer on Friday nights at a local Cub Scout Pack in my neighborhood.  The kids I work with range from first to fifth grade.  There is no better feeling than helping kids.  The Make-A-Wish Foundation helps kids that may not get another chance to do or get what they most want.  The fact that you help is one thing, they take it to a whole different level.  I believe that this charity is worth any donation we could possibly give.

Monolgue

I’m Angelos, might as well start somewhere, I’m form Brooklyn NY, I wouldn’t say born and raised however because I’ve spent a lot of my life living in Greece.  Greece is awesome. I love going there.  I’ve spent every summer of my life there, and then some.  A lot of my family is there, so I pretty stay busy while I’m there.  I have family in all different parts of Greece, but my favorite place to be is my dad’s home town, Amaliada.  There is where I spend the majority of my summer, and my cousin always try and make sure it will either be a summer I won’t forget, or a summer I will always be trying to remember, or any combination of the two.

Being Greek I am born knowing a couple of things: first I have to love soccer, it is mandatory that every Greek appreciates soccer; my favorite team is Panathinaikos, no thanks to my cousins of course who are almost all fans of this team.  You also are in love with the beach, if you’re Greek. Given that you have some knowledge of how to swim form birth, it’s a great thing having the beach literally five minuets away.  Finally, as you get older you are baptized in the art of drinking ouzo and tsipouro (Greek brandy); if you can handle both of these you can pretty much drink anything.

Now this only happens for two months of the year.  So what happens the rest of the year…mostly school, chilling with friends, working on the cars, work in general, and the occasional camping trip where all my stories come from.  The best time I have here is with my friends, especially when we are camping.  When we go camping we can just relax.  Nothing bothers us.  It’s kind of like all the stupid bullshit we deal with on a daily basis goes away for that weekend.  My friends have definitely gotten me through sum pretty hard times.  Especially my friend Con.  This kid and I have been friends pretty much from birth.  That’s an eighteen year on going friendship.  He’s always had my back and I’ll always have his.  Now that’s a little harder since he goes to Virginia Tech and I’m up here at Baruch, but that is not a reason to get rid of that kind of friendship.  Any story I tell he is usually the one in it with me.  It’s kind of a funny thing.  This kid would spend more time at my house than he spent home.  Maybe that’s why he can get away with calling my mom “mom”, just playing; he only does that to be funny.

WHY??!?

So, the only reason I’m doing this is becausez its required. The questions are, “who am I?, what are three concerns I have about freshman year, what do I think of Baruch so far?, and how will my first year at college change me?”, might as well go in order.

-I’m Angelos, born in Brooklyn NY, but raise here and also in Greece.  Yes I’m Greek, and dam proud of that.  Ive gone to Greece every summer and then sum, I’m still 17 but Ive been there 24 times, and have stayed for at least 6 weeks every time, I’m too lazy butt if u want do the math.  I have an obsession with old muscle cars, and rock music.  My favorite car is a 1967 mustang Shelby GT 500, if you have ever seen the movie “Gone In Sixty Seconds” its Elanor.  My favorite rock song is probably Don’t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster cult.  Ive been taught that if you want something you have to work for it,  because of that I have learned to work hard, but I am lazy.  I tell great stories, the reason why there so good is because there all true. You will hear some of the stuff that I have done or been through and be like “whats wrong with you?!?!”

-Three concerns that I have for freshman year are, not to screw up, being able to adjust to college life, and not to injure myself to an extreme again.  the first two have sort of the same reasoning, in college no ones looking over your shoulder to get stuff done, your all on your own.  The third is a little more detailed, it has to do with the stories I tell.  I have injured myself to points that i have been 2 months out of school and when Id come back I would be in a wheelchair for another month and a half.

-So far, I think of Baruch as another school.  My high school had 5000 students, and wed all seem to jam ourselves in one corner.  coming from a school like that Baruch doesn’t seem all that different.  Yeah there is more students, but they are at a maturer level.

-I think my first year of college will make me more independent, and cause me not to procrastinate with assignments as much as I did in high school.
