2 study tips that work best for me – Jason Shaltiel

The study tips from SACC is a list of things students should do while taking a test. After reading the list I found two tips that work best for me; budget your time and allow time at the end to check carelessness. One of my biggest problems while taking an exam is budgeting my time on each question. This is a problem because when i spend to much time working on a single question it hurts my grade because i will have less time to spend on other questions and little or no time to spend checking my answers after the exam. If i pace myself properly on each question and skip the ones that i believe may take me more time it will help my overall grade because i will have more time to answer other questions and i will have time to go back and answer the questions i skipped.

I also found the study tip of allowing time at the end to check careless to be important because often time during math exams i make careless mistakes such as forgetting to change a negative sign into a positive one which can ruin my entire answer, if i use the tip and go back and check my answers it is possible that i can find my mistakes and correct them. Both these study tips are important to me because I practice them every time I take a test and I will continue to practice them throughout the rest of college so that I can achieve high scores on my exams.

Community service is an action that is invaluable, when people engage in community service they are doing a selfless act which can sometimes never be repaid. According to an article written on TIME.com the reason why people are volunteering now more than ever is because many believe that the government and public sphere are broken and therefore find it to be within their own duty to do something. Public volunteering is very important in this nation, as a result of public volunteering people can live easier lives because they are gaining outside help from others. Community service is also good in raising nationalism within nation, people will feel a stronger sense of unity and the moral of the nation will increase as well.  Community service is something that everyone can gain from including the people who are engaging in it. Although community service may take up time in one’s day it can benefit that person because when a person engages in community service they are increasing their notoriety as  a good person. A person who contributes in community service can also develop relationships with other who are engaging in community service, whether it’s people who are receiving the support or other who are contributing aid and those connections can open a lot of doors in one’s future.

I believe that leadership isn’t very important in community service but rather organization and unity is. In order for people to do a good job in community service they need to be organized and united under a common or similar goal. I don’t believe leadership is important because community service is something that should be done out of the kindness of one’s heart so that they do a better job, if someone else is instructing others on how to do help others than those who are following will not do as good a job because the aid they are providing is ingenuine.

A way in which volunteerism and civic participation can be boosted on campus is by making it a requirement in order to graduate. Another way in which civic participation can be boosted on campus is by making it more well known to the students, many students actually want to engage in community service but they don’t know how or what to do.

Who I am – Jason Shaltiel

I believe that I am the future president of the United States. I believe this because of the many characteristics that define me. I am smart, and make a good leader regardless of the situation. My top three concerns about my freshman year include over indulgence, procrastination, and lack of sleep. Since I moved to the city earlier this year I have been over indulging in things such as alcohol and video games. Both of these things have lead to a lack of sleep and procrastination with my homework. Waking up with a hangover can make the difference in a day, I had learn that first hand. Procrastination is also a concern of mine because sometimes I push my homework on the side and don’t return to it until hours later.

My college experience will differ from my high school experience because this time I am living in the city of Manhattan. My first year of college will probably change me for better. Thankfully I have learned to live through my mistakes and take them all as life lessons.
