Reflection
1- My experience at Baruch lived up to my expectations in the way that i learned so much and i was expecting to be around an environment where i would always be learning. I also expected college to be a change from high school, and that also was the case. It did not live up to my expectations in the fact that i thought i was going to be more involved in school activities which wasn’t the case. It exceeded my expectations in the fact that i didnt expect to meet so many new people as i did in my first semester.
2- I think my first semester at Baruch went pretty well. I adjusted to the new way of learning rather quickly, and i really focused on my grades and school work. I now know what to focus on and which areas are important for next semester.
3-The thing that I would do differently is that i which i got more involved in my school’s activities, and i wish i joined a Baruch club or team. Secondly, I wish I could of better managed my time, whereas I woud’nt be as stressed as i as over the course of my first semester at Baruch.
4- The way i have changed since i first started at Baruch is that I have became very more independent and more mature. I now understand the essence of responsibility and the fact that it is up to me to get things done, unlike in high school where there was always someone there to help me out. I also believe that i now better understand how important education is, and how vital education is for one to succeed in the real world.

Community Service Self-Evaluation
- How did your community service work help the community? The way my community service helped the community is that i delivered food to many poor people, who otherwise would have proper food to eat. The various packages we delivered to those need contained many basic food necessities, such as rice, water, and bread. Without this great program it is very possible that these needy people could of went hungry.
- What were your initial reactions upon hearing that you would be engaging in a community service project? Initialy i was both excited to help my community, yet i was also very nervous and anxious because i was never involved in such a program which required me to interact with different people in which i dont know.
- How did it make you feel to give your time and energy to others? It really made me feel great. I felt as though i did a great service for my community and i was very pleased that i did something positive and affective with my time. I was very happy that instead of sitting home and watching sportscenter on my television, i was out helping my community. I also felt that the more energy i put into this program the more values i would be able to pull out. I am very glad that i put all my energy into this community service.
- What did you learn about yourself, the people around you, and the service site? Firstlt i learned that i am more capale than i actually give myself credit, and i also learned that even though i am such a small part of this big giant world, i still can make a great difference in the world around me. Secondly i learned that there are many unfortunate people around me that even though may seem to be just like me, are really very misfortunate and need help. There are also many great people in this world who really care and want to benefit others. I never realized how good people really can be, until i got involved in this program. Lastly, i realized that this program is a real necessity in the community, and many people really depend on this program. Without this program i am certain that many people in the community wouldnt be able to have enough food to eat.
- What stands out as the best and/or most trying experiences that occurred while engaging in your community service project? What did you learn from these experiences? The best and most fulfilying experience that occured while i was participating in my community service is that at one house where i was dropping off food, a old woman answered the door. And when she saw the bag of food that i had for her, there was a big smile on her face, and she gave me the biggest hug. For me this was the greatest satisfaction and reward in which i could receieve, because i now learnt how important my community service was for the people of my community. From here i also learned that something so small can really mean the world to others around you, therefore you should do your best to make the little changes in your life that could possibly lead to bigger outcomes.
- How did engaging in this project relate to your education and the larger issues in society? This community service experience really opened my mind and has educated me to broader issues in my community. I never really realized how many people in my community that i pass by everyday, how poor and needy they really are. This experience has opened my eyes to the greater issues of importance in my community. This relates to education by the fact that i believe it is important to educate those around you, of the needs of others in the community.
- How did your community service experience relate to the “Leadership and Service” session? My Community service experience related to the Leadership and Services” session, in the fact that it takes a true leader to step up and do many deeds for the community that others wont. Thids in my mind is true leadership. Those people who run many of these various programs that help the poor and needy are the ones that have all the qualities needed to be a good and affective leader.
- How has your community service experience changed your thinking, attitudes, and actions towards others, yourself, the community, and community service work as a whole? The way that this service has changed my thinking is that it made me value the life i had being that i was now able to see that there are so many others that are less fortunate than i am. I now have realized that a lot of thigs that i previouslt was complaining about was not have as bad as the things that these people have to worry about in their every day lives. As a result i will now be ever changed and try to act in away that is not as selfish and rather than try to take for myself i will now be looking for ant opportunity to give back to the community, because and small action can make a great difference. Inot only value myself after my community service, bt i value the impact that my actions can now have on others.
- How has your community service experience impacted you personally? What is the most important thing you learned about yourself throughout this experience? The way my community experience has impacted me personally is that it has opened me up to a whole new world where i was not the center of it. I have realized through my community service that there are much greater issue and problems that people have to face than the ones that i am currently facing, and it is my job to help those people solve these problems. The most important thing that i have learned about myself throughout this experience is that what i see as a necessity is in many cases actually a privilidge and that even though i am just a college freshman i myself can take a stand to help change the lives of those around me.
- Were you satisfied with your experience overall? Why or why not? Yes i was satisfied with my experience overall and i felt very accomplished after doing my community serrvice. I experienced such a feeling of self achievment and really felt as though i have greatly benefited my community. This feeling was not just fleeting however it lasted throughout the week.
- Do you see yourself staying involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why not? Yes i really do see myself staying involved in community service during my college and adult years, because i really love this experience of helping others and i loved the feeling that i got after i accomplished helping others. I truly believe that i got more out of this experience than the people i have helped. Throughoout my adult years i hope that i can continue in this manner, and help as many people as i possibly can.
- Sum up your service-learning experience in a one-or two-sentence headline: My service learning experience was very satisfying and benefitial for myself and my community. I learned that it is true that one person can really make a difference in his community.

Monologue
My name is marc Betesh and i am 18 years old. Entering my frehman year as a college student, I promised myself that I wouldn’t repeat the same lazy and procrastinating habits that I had in high school. People always told me that in order to survive in college and essentially in the “real world,” it is important to be very organized and to do your work, days, if not weeks in advance. Being that I am the most unorganized kid in the world, I knew this was going to be a challenge, however I was very eager to prove to myself that I was able to face this problem head on. As college began, I had a plan to do every piece of work the day it was assigned and not to leave anything to the last minute. This plan worked for the first couple assignments, but after a couple of weeks and as I began to get more comfortable in this new atmosphere, my old self kicked in. I was now once again resorting to my old habits and leaving most of my work for the night before it was assigned. Don’t get me wrong, I completed the material necessary for all my classes, but the stress that I was now under due to my procrastination, was greater that it should have been. After one night where I was up until 230 in the morning, drinking tons of coffee and finishing up two reports that were due for the next day, I decided that enough was enough. I now saw the real truth in what everyone used to tell me, and I decided that this time, I was going to change my ways for good. Using the calendar that was given to me by my outstanding freshman seminar peer mentors, I was now writing down all my assignments and marking them for the date that I should complete them, rather for the date that they were due. Not only did this new system make it easy for me to do all my work to the best of my capability, but it in retrospect also gave me much more free time than if I would have delayed and pushed my work off. I also found a new discovery called the library, which now became a very vital part in my daily routine. In my breaks I went to the library and did my work in a very quiet and efficient manner, free from distraction. I was now able to finish most if not all the work I was planning to do for when I got home. This made my life much easier and stress free. I never truly realized how much time I was actually wasting rather than being productive. This new founded free time that I now so fortunately had, enabled me to greater explore Baruch, and the different kinds of programs that it offered. I soon found out that there was so much more to Baruch than just, classrooms, students and textbooks. I quickly became interested in many different groups and clubs, which dealt with many of my hobbies and interests. Looking back on my first couple weeks of college I only wish that I knew about the importance of being organized and the freedom that it would actually give me from the beginning. Moving forward, I plan to keep up my new ways as I move to tackle my next phase of my college experience, and hopefully I will be able to achieve all my goals and desires. From this day on my old ways of being lazy, are behind me, and it is my job to make sure that they will always be a thing of the past.

Who Do You Think You Are
My name is Marc Betsh and i am currently a freshman at Baruch College. I plan to get my degree and gradute from the Zicklin School of Business. I am not sure what i want to major and minor in, although i know that whatever i do decide to major in, will have to do with business. I truly believe that i can learn many great valuable lessons and ideas from Baruch College that can help me achieve my goals. I really want to be a succesful businessman in the future and i plan on doing what ever it takes to do just that. My first concern about my freshman year at Baruch College is doing well in all my classes and receiving a good GPA. The reason why i am concerned about this, is because i know how important it is to graduate college with a high GPA and i know how the first year of college can lead the way for all the others. It is very important to get a good start. My second concern is how i will be able to manage my time. Unlike highscool where all the teachers are constanly checking up on you and making sure you do your work, college is totally different. In college it is very important to stay on top of your work, or else it is possible that you can get left behind and as a result your grade can suffer. I must be organized and focused on my work in order to achieve my goals. My third and final concern and worry about my freshman year at college is my ability to network and meet new friends. I know how important it is to expand your network and you never know when someone from your past can help you in the future. I think the one thing that will make my Baruch College experience different than my highschool experience is that i plan to be more active and to have more school spirit in college than i did in highschool. I plan to get involven in many organizations and many interest groups. I think this will help my college experience be a fun one. The way my first year of college will change me is that i feel it will make me be more selfsufficient and independent. This first year of college will definitley help me to adapt to, and to give me the first hand look as to how the “real world” actually is. U am very excited for the next chapter of my college experience, and i cant wait to see what Baruch College has in store for us.
