Between Two Worlds Workshop

After attending the mandatory workshop titled “Between Two Worlds”, I realized that not
everyone is as lucky as we are in the United States. This workshop showed a documentary that talked about a film that showed the struggle in Israel. The film had shown how people are willing to stand up for what is right and stand up for Israel. The problem was that the film had viewed Israel in a negative way and caused an angry reaction from the Israeli people. People were upset when certain facts that they believed to be false were shown in the film. The saddest part of the film was when it showed how the tanks ran over a girl named Rachel who was protesting peace in Israel. I believe that everyone should know the positives and the negatives about the country. Once the negatives are identified, we should work towards solving those problems.

Subject: Midterm Exam Absence
Dear Professor ________,

I’m writing to inform you that I missed the midterm exam today as I was hospitalized with a sudden case of Salmonella poisoning. I would really appreciate if you can schedule a new date for me to take a make-up exam.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,

Who Do You Think You Are?

I am the type of person that likes to get along with everyone. It is very important to me that I treat others exactly the way I expect them to treat me. I’m responsible and like to get things done on time. I love to play tennis and I have been playing for more than nine years. I have an identical twin brother and people are always shocked when they see us together.

So far, I love going to Baruch College and love the people that I have met. I have a great time hanging out with everyone from Block 32. My top 3 concerns about freshman year at Baruch are doing well on the finals, managing my time well and getting the classes that I want. Everyone wants to get good grades and to me that is the most important thing. I need to keep on managing my time better so that work does not pile up. Getting all the classes that I want to take will make my life easy because those classes will interest me. Right now, I’m happy with how things are going. School work is starting to increase every week but my determination and focus is still in place.

College has been an entirely different experience for me than high school ever was. One obvious difference is that I have to do a lot more reading per week than I did in high school. I have also interacted with people more often and I’m certainly having a lot more fun!! Study time has increased as well but that was expected. Also, I spend less number of hours per week in school than I did in high school. I love my flexible college schedule and don’t miss the 7 hour Monday thru Friday schedule that I had during High School. I’m having a fantastic time in college and hope that it will continue like this!

Monologue

I started playing tennis at the age of nine. I still remember the day when my mom took my brother and me and got us signed up for a summer tennis program. My life has never been the same since then. To many people tennis may mean nothing but it has been a major part of my life.

On the first day I picked up a racquet, I was a bit nervous. A lot of parents had come to watch their kids play tennis. I was ecstatic to be there but knowing that there were a bunch of people watching me made me even more nervous.

Our tennis coach, Fred, was an amazing person. He made everyone feel right at home. The first thing we did was some stretching exercises and ran a few laps. Next, the coach showed us the motion for the forehand, backhand and volleys. It seemed easy enough and we practiced that for a few minutes. Everything seemed to be going well. Finally, we started hitting tennis balls and did some simple drills.

It may not sound like much but that was the moment that changed my life forever. If that moment hadn’t taken place, I would probably have been a couch potato. I have had a great time so far and made some amazing friends on the tennis court. Nowadays, I may not have that much time to play, but whenever possible I go out on the tennis court with my friends and I always have a great time.
