a. Talk about how your experience at Baruch lived up to your expectations. Not lived up to your expectations? Exceeded expectations?
Baruch has lived up to my expectations, a teacher commented how Baruch students would end up working more than some Ivy league students and so it has lived up to that expectation. It has exceeded my expectation of the library, the library is very beautiful and has a lot of material for us to lend. Baruch does not seem to be that stressful it seems to be just like how Brooklyn Tech was like. It has exceeded my expectation in that there are so many people. Even though there were are five express elevators each day at around 2:15 the elevators are unbelievably crowed and I thought that one crowed elevator in Brooklyn Tech was bad.
b. how well do you think your 1st semester went?
I think that this first semester could have been better because I think that I could have been more productive and should have started some of my assignments ahead of time so I could have more time to look things over and correct them. Aside from classes I was able to make a few more friends through this learning community. This semester is not a bad one but I think that it could have definitely gone better if I had planned out my schedule better than I have in this term. This semester with the LC events it has been quite entertaining. We were able to incorporate learning with a dash of fun so it has been a very interesting semester and has also been very enjoyable.
c. what would you do differently this semester if you could do it again?
If I can change the way I have done things this semester I would choose to be more productive and make sure that all of my assignments are done earlier so I would have less to worry about throughout the week. In addition, I would dedicate more time to my essays as well  as to studying for the tests that were administered. Although the scores weren’t bad I think that there is more room for improvement.
d. How have you changed since you started at Baruch college?
I have changed because I have been more productive than I have been in high school. In addition, in high school I have tried to keep my notes in order and I would rewrite my notes for every single one of my classes but at the end of the day I was so tired that it was just mission impossible. However, at the beginning of the school year I have typed up my notes so each day I would return home to make sure I have all my notes computerized. This way it would be much easier when it comes time for studying. I have also done more studying for the courses because these are subjects that I have never taken prior to them so these are new subject.

Monologue

I am a Chinese girl that grew up in Brooklyn. I have no siblings but I didn’t grow up to be spoiled. I am a student at Baruch, a friend who’s all ears, and a daughter. I look forward to doing well at Baruch. I have been in Chinese school for ten years now, although, that may seem like a long time, I don’t think I can win an argument against kids in China. I enjoy going swimming over the summers. I am not afraid to try new things, but I don’t always succeed like in ice skating. However, if I have to sit down and think about who I truly am, I don’t think I have the right words for it just yet, I guess I have to continue through life to get to that answer.

Breast Cancer Walk

For our volunteering activity we had to go to Central Park to help cheer on the many people that came to the Breast Cancer walk. I remember that three years ago I was one of these people that came to the walk, that time I was a walker that went on behalf of Red Cross, but that was at Prospect Park. That time I remembered that the people that cheered for us were having a lot of fun and I wished that I could have switched with them because I thought that they could rest a little and huddle together for more warmth. Although, that time the walk was long, it was still fun; this time it was cold, but is an interesting perspective. I got to cheer for the people that were walking. It was great to have encouraged those walkers who came out early and walked for benefiting others.

Before entering Baruch I knew myself as a student from Brooklyn Technical High School. I am a person that does not mind helping people out when they need it, whether it was through Red Cross helping those who I didn’t really know to working at camps like Overseas Chinese Mission to teach little kids things that would be coming up in their next school year. At school I may not be the smartest kid in the school or even in the class, but I would work hard to master the things from that class. Aside from just Tech classes I  also took Chinese classes because I thought it was weird that a Chinese person does not know how to read or write in Chinese.

One of the concerns that I have for this year is that travel time to and from school would be longer than it was in high school. Especially since there are classes that start in the afternoon, there are more chances that there would be planned service changes and that aren’t always posted inside each train. Next is that I would have dedicate more time to study for my tests. In Tech an all-nighter cramming session was all I needed, but I can tell it is not going to be that easy. The last thing is that I have to limit my procrastination and get enough sleep per night so I could stay awake for all of my classes.

I think that Baruch would be different from high school is that there would be breaks between each class so I could have a breather period. Then there is a two and a half hour break that would allow me to go to club, go for a walk and go eat. In addition, it would be different that classes end at different times each day and I don’t have to go to school every single day and still get credit for them.

The first year of Baruch would change me because I would be less of a procrastinator and would make me more active inside the school. By being more active it would be to join more clubs, especially since the school has so many things to offer to students. In addition, I would probably end up doing more things ahead of time so I don’t have to worry about them until the last minute, but I think that’s going to take a bit more time.
