Freshman Year

a. I didn’t really expect much coming in the beginning, so my standards were pretty low; however I can’t say Baruch fully lived up to my expectations. I expected to have more work than in high school, and yes, there was. On the other hand, I expected more interesting clubs as well. I don’t really like much of the clubs that I have been to, but I’ll keep an eye out for others next semester.

b. I think my first semester went decently well. I wasn’t super overwhelmed with work like I thought I would be, but I still have a considerable workload and have been sleeping a little less. Although my grades seem pretty average, I’m content, because the first semester is definitely a hard transition.

c. If I were to change my first semester, I would definitely have committed more in my studies. I think if I studied a little harder for my classes, I would have done better. Also, I would have been more social so that I could meet more new people.

d. I learned to be more efficient with time. In the beginning, I always rushed to complete assignments, but now that the semester is almost over, I’ve improved on my time management skills. I still procrastinate from time to time, but it has gotten better and I have more time for my own leisure.

Monologue

Art was, is, and I think will forever be a favorite past time for me. I don’t know when and why I first started having a strong liking to art, but surely it has stuck with me up to this very day. I remember, as a child, I enjoyed coloring, doodling, drawing, and getting messy in arts and crafts, rather than reading a good ol’ book. In grade school, I was always yelled at for not excelling in academic principles like math and science (and still do), but instead, doing exceptionally well in the arts. Growing up with Asian parents, they certainly were not pleased with my choices and strongly discouraged me from heading down a field that was art oriented.  However, in high school, I followed my gut instincts of doing what I enjoyed the most and continued with art. I chose to be a part of the Media Communications major that my school had offered. I got to take courses like: Studio Art, Graphic Design, Film and Video, and Web Design. Although, I chose to attend Baruch, this does not dissuade me in any way to put down my love for art. I still wish to continue to express my creativity through design, graphics, and photography even after earning a business related degree. I hope to incorporate the skills I learn in college and my artistic strengths, and possess a career that I can both enjoy and be stable in.
