Freshman Year

Baruch has been good to so far. I’ve learned there are many great professors at Baruch while there are some that are terrible. I’ve learned to keep your expectations low so you won’t be disappointed later on. This applies to life in general. My first semester here at Baruch hasn’t been half bad. I’ve made friends that I’m sure I’ll still talk to even if we don’t have the same classes next semester. If I can redo this semester, I would’ve worked harder and done things differently so I wouldn’t lose my best friend. I’ve learned not to make anyone or anything your world because you can lose it all in a blink of an eye. So unless it can be easily replaced, don’t get attached to it.

Monologue

Many people have asked me, “What do you want to do when you’re older?” and I’ve been telling them the same answer since I was 5, “I want to be a race car driver.” Some people have encouraged me, others have laughed and I don’t blame them. How many people who want to become astronauts, have actually became astronauts? While it is extremely hard to become a professional race car driver and bloody expensive as well, there’s no harm in trying. I have almost everything I need to start. All I need is the opportunity and work on my skill.

My mom raised me around cars because she thought all boys liked cars and I guess she really hit it with me. She took me to the auto show every year since I was 3 until I was old enough to go with friends. She bought tons of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars and I loved them. After I got my license I drove whenever I could and where ever I could. I ended up getting a couple of tickets and pretty much wrecked my first car. If a cop or state trooper ever pulls you over, stay calm and if they’re doing something wrong, you can always record them and report them later. Also don’t keep stuff lying around inside your car so it won’t give the cops an excuse to search your car.

I’ve never really like stuff with two wheels. It’s probably because at the end of the 5th grade, I fell while riding my scooter and fractured my wrist. I know it sounds pathetic and it was but after that, my parents kept me away from anything with two wheels until I was old enough to make my own decisions.

I’m not really scared of anything or would have it prevent me from doing something that I would normally do. For example, if I survived a plane crash, it won’t prevent me from getting on a plane later on because the chances of being in two plane crashes is just absurd. I’m not very good at making examples or explaining myself but you should get my point. If there’s one thing that makes me uncomfortable, it’s heights. It isn’t the dying that scares me but the falling or tumbling down the stairs is what bothers me. There are other small things that bother me but at most, I’ll nope myself out of there.

This is Me

Hey guys! I’m Andrew and I’m 18 years old. I’m full Chinese but my Mandarin has gotten worse over time. My parents are both from China and came to America to raise me. I grew up in Queens my whole life and attended a Catholic school up until high school. I attended The Bronx Hs of Science for my four years of high school. While it wasn’t the best school in my opinion, it did have its upsides. I made friends that no matter how long we don’t talk, we will never become strangers and I’m glad of that.

My top three concerns about my freshman year at Baruch has to be getting good grades in all my classes, making new friends, and staying out of trouble. While my grades aren’t as great as I would like them to be, they’re a lot better than my grades in high school. I’ve also made a lot more friends than I had expected and they’ve always been there when I needed them. For now, I haven’t really gotten into any major trouble so I think it’s going pretty well.

To an extent, Baruch still feels like high school because there really isn’t a real campus but I do like how you can go to the bathroom any time you like without having to ask the professor. Another thing I really like is going to school only when you have classes and don’t have to stay for 6 hours everyday.

College has taught me to be more mature because we have to do everything ourselves without having someone tell us how and when to do it. Let’s just take life one step at a time.
